B.C. Backs LNG Bunkering
The British Columbia Government has joined Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and FortisBC to establish the first ship-to-ship LNG marine refueling – or bunkering – facility on the west coast of North America.The use of LNG to power the world’s ocean-going vessels is forecast to expand and B.C. is well positioned to benefit from this growth.According to industry standards, replacing diesel fuel with LNG has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 20%. Port of Vancouver Sets Records

Virginia 1st US Port to Join SEA\LNG
SEA\LNG, a multi-sector industry coalition, created to accelerate the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, has announced that the Port of Virginia has become the first port in the US to join them.A press release from the LNG body quoted Peter Keller, Chairman, SEA\LNG, as commenting: “We’re very pleased to welcome the Port of Virginia as our first US port member. The US has vastly increased its LNG export capacity since the industry really took flight in early 2016, inspiring development in LNG bunkering capabilities on the East and West Coasts.
SEA\LNG Welcomes Vancouver Fraser Port

Vancouver Port Cargo Volumes Hit Record in 2018
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has released the 2018 year-end statistics for cargo through the Port of Vancouver. The second consecutive year of record cargo volumes reflects Canada’s growing trade, said a press release.Overall cargo volume through Canada’s largest port reached a record high of 147 million tonnes, up 3.5 per cent from 2017, it said."One of the port’s biggest strengths continues to be the ability to accommodate the most diversified range of cargo of any port in North America.

Marine technology specialists Wartsila’s energy-saving propeller cap has been included in the 2019 Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s EcoAction Program which offers harbor dues discounts for vessels calling at the Port of Vancouver that meet environmental best practices.The listing is in the vessel quieting category, which awards a 23 percent discount in harbor dues for vessels utilizing this technology. Green Marine Elects New Chairman of the Board
President and CEO of the Port of Cleveland, William D. Friedman, was elected chairman of the Green Marine’s Board of Directors following the corporation’s Annual General Meeting on May 31, during GreenTech 2018, in Vancouver B.C. Federal Funding for Port of Vancouver
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority received federal funding for projects that will improve the flow of goods to and from the Port of Vancouver. Through the collaborative efforts of the port authority, Transport Canada, B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, TransLink and the Greater Vancouver Gateway Council, an infrastructure program called the Greater Vancouver Gateway 2030 strategy was created to ensure the roads and railways that lead to the Port of Vancouver are ready to manage Canada’s growing trade.

While the size of the global commercial fleet more than doubled since the 1960s, anthropogenic noise in the oceans has actually increased eightfold.

Port of Vancouver Rides High on Grain Exports
Though overall cargo volume through the Port of Vancouver in 2016 decreased 1.8 percent to 136 million metric tons from 2015, sectors experiencing declines were offset by others that hit new records, including the bulk grain sector, according to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority released its 2016 year-end statistics. “One of our biggest strengths has been, and continues to be, the port’s ability to accommodate the most diversified range of cargo of any port in North America,” said Robin Silvester, president and chief executive officer of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.
Vancouver Port Selects “PBCF” as Equipment Designated
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced that Propeller Boss Cap Fins (PBCF) was selected as a vessel quieting technology by the EcoAction Program implemented by Port of Vancouver, Canada. PBCF was jointly developed by MOL, West Japan Fluid Engineering Laboratory Co., Ltd. and Nakashima Propeller Co., Ltd. (Note 1), and is being sold by MOL Techno-Trade, Ltd. Vancouver Fraser Port Responds to Community Concerns

Panel to Review Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project
An independent three-member review panel has been established to conduct the environmental assessment of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority's Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project, a proposed new three-ship container terminal that would accommodate growing demand for goods shipped in containers. According to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, the construction of the privately-funded project would create 12,700 person-years of employment over a five-and-a-half year period and its operation would support approximately 12,400 full-time jobs on an ongoing basis. Appointed to the review panel are members Dr. Diana Valiela, Dr. David Levy and panel chair Jocelyne Beaudet, announced Catherine McKenna, Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
Northwest Seaport Alliance Joins Green Marine

Canada acts to upgrade its safety system for shipping oil & liquefied natural gas safely through Canada’s waterways before any major new energy export facilities become operational. Tanker inspections: The number of inspections will increase to ensure that all foreign tankers are inspected on their first visit to Canada, and annually thereafter, to ensure they comply with rules and regulations, especially with respect to double hulls. Systematic surveillance and monitoring of ships: The government will expand the National Aerial Surveillance Program (NASP).
