Circulation of dry, cool air is critical for engine performance, longevity and safety. Dometic Group recently confirmed five key appointments in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) territory following the restructuring of Dometic Group’s global business operations in early 2013. Dometic noted that the appointments have been made to strengthen the EMEA business moving into 2014 as the company is experiencing an increasing demand for its products and installations within the commercial and workboat sector. Paul Hickinbotham has been appointed Director EMEA - Sales and Administrations & Commercial Division.

Leisure products supplier for the RV, Marine and CPV (Commercial and Passenger Vehicle) markets, Dometic Group, has acquired Livos Technologies Inc., a provider of engine room ventilation equipment and systems for the commercial and pleasure boat markets. “Livos Technologies is an innovative provider of engine room ventilation, and we are delighted to be able to bring it under our umbrella,” said Frank Marciano, President, Dometic Americas. “This acquisition reinforces Dometic’s status as a leading global provider of marine HVAC systems, sanitation systems, electronics and galley equipment.

The acquisition will broaden Dometic’s offering to our global client base with new Marine applications such as axial fans, centrifugal blowers, smoke and fire dampers, mist-eliminating grilles and electronic fan controls. This acquisition will create a larger product portfolio by now also offering engine room ventilation equipment. Customers will benefit from having a single point of contact for their entire HVAC systems, simplifying design, service and maintenance.

When Portland, Maine needed an aluminum fire/rescue boat, the city brought on builder A.F. Theriault & Son. The resulting 65-ft City of Portland features a medical bay identical to land-based ambulances, multiple water cannons and a complete Delta T ventilation system. "We offer Delta T Systems as optional equipment, but they have such a great reputation that many architects will incorporate them into their designs," said Theriault & Son VP of production Graham Oakley. Intermarine of Savannah, Ga., has joined the number of yacht builders who are taking advantage of the new corporate alliance program offered by Delta "T" Systems of Jupiter, Fla. As an alliance member, Intermarine will receive quicker, easier and more cost-efficient access to Delta "T" Systems' engine room ventilation products. The company's products manage airflow through the engine room to optimize engine performance and service life. They include fans, fire dampers, moisture eliminators and automated electronic control systems. As part of the agreement, Intermarine will make Delta "T” Systems products standard aboard all its craft. Intermarine will also benefit from special warranty and cooperative advertising arrangements with Delta "T".

Computer simulations and tests have been carried out by LauritzenCool and York Marine AB to confirm the suitability to distribute air in refrigerated cargo holds without gratings. The investigated grating-less concept was confirmed successful by full-scale transports of bananas in a regular service over a period of half a year from Central America to Europe. The work has given valuable information in developing formulas and algorithms to design safe systems for grating-less holds in refrigerated ships. The project started in 1994 with laboratory work at ABB Ventilation Products to find criteria for the rate of cooling of bananas on single pallets. Soon, tests moved on to trials to determine the rate of cooling and temperature gradients in several pallets of bananas and citrus.
