North Sea Port Receives the First Ship Balao
The ship Balao docked at Verbrugge Terminals in Vlissingen, in North Sea Port, carrying a cargo of fruit. This was the first ship to arrive as part of this logistical service provider's first permanent intercontinental shipping line.The ship was carrying fruit such as bananas and pineapple, among other things. In this line, goods will be loaded in Cartagena and Santa Marta, Colombia and in Puerto Limón, Costa Rica. From South America, the ships will then sail to the European ports of London, North Sea Port and Rotterdam.For Verbrugge, this is the first intercontinental shipping line to be handled at this port. Each week, ships from the shipping companies Streamlines and Hapag-Lloyd will sail from South America to Vlissingen in North Sea Port.
Damaged Containership Towed to Rotterdam
The 2,757 TEU container vessel Fowairet, which suffered hogging damage and hold flooding after running aground on September 20 between Terneuzen and Antwerp with part-hazardous cargo, has been safely towed to Rotterdam by joint salvors Multraship Salvage and URS Salvage and Maritime Contracting. The Fowairet had on board almost 2,000 containers, 127 of them with hazardous cargo. After the grounding, the vessel - which also sustained a cracked fuel tank resulting in oil leakage which was contained by anti-pollution craft with sweepers - was held in Flushing harbor. Scheldt Salvage a Success
Multraship Salvage, working under LOF2000 with co-contractors URS Salvage and Maritime Contracting, has moved the containership Fowairet to the Verbrugge Terminal at the port of Flushing after the 2,757 teu vessel grounded in the River Scheldt last week with a cargo of almost 2,000 containers, 127 of which contained hazardous cargo. The vessel suffered hogging damage and flooding in No. 5 hold after grounding in the early morning of September 20 on the ebb tide near Perkpolder, between Terneuzen and Antwerp. There was some oil leakage from a cracked fuel tank which was contained by anti-pollution craft with sweepers. The vessel was initially held in Flushing Sloe harbor, awaiting inspection and assessment of salvage options.
