WasteFuel to Launch Bio-methanol Marine Fuel

Low-carbon biofuels developer WasteFuel announced the launch of WasteFuel Marine, a renewable fuel solution for the shipping sector. WasteFuel Marine’s initial product will be bio-methanol for container ships.WasteFuel said it aims for its marine fuels to reduce CO2 emissions by 95% and nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional fuels.“Methanol has exceptional appeal as a renewable fuel - it can use existing logistics infrastructure, works with proven engine designs and has a lower production cost relative to other renewable fuels.

Cummins Debuts Mobile Tier 4 Generators

Cummins’ certified Tier 4 Final QSB7 and QSL9 engine platforms form the basis for mobile generator sets that meet EPA regulations without diesel particulate filters (DPF).

U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final certified mobile generator sets with 150 kW to 275 kW power outputs are now available from Cummins Power Generation for the rental market. Cummins said it conducted extensive field research to develop a reliable, easy to operate and versatile product to meet the latest emissions regulations. The mobile generators have been thoroughly validated and are now available to rental operators and customers. The new units are based on the Cummins QSB7 and QSL9 engine platforms that have undergone extensive refinements to meet the stringent EPA Tier 4 Final regulations.

TEN Charter Out Five Product Tankships

Greece-based Tsakos Energy Navigation Limited (TEN) fix 3-year charters for 5 Panamax LR1 product tankers with a major national end-user. These fixtures are expected to generate close to $80 million in gross revenues over the duration of their contracts. Inclusive of the above, the total revenue of the Company's secured fleet, excluding any profit sharing arrangements, is over $1.0 billion. "We are happy to announce this five-vessel fixture which is in line with the improving sentiment in the greater tanker sector and an extension of our strategic alliance with major end users," said George Saroglou, Chief Operating Officer.

CH3OH: Make Room for Methanol

The newest buzz among offshore operators serving the oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) is the increased use of methanol (CH3OH) by oil companies and contract drillers. This has meant more work for supply boats carrying this alcohol product to rigs along with rig water, fuel oil and liquid and bulk mud. Methanol is used to keep the flow lines from the wellhead to the surface of the water from becoming restricted or blocked. Restricted flow from wells is becoming an increasing problem for oil companies and drilling contractors whose bottom line depends on getting every drop of oil from a well. Flow assurance is a critical issue, especially with longer tiebacks in deepwater drilling operations.
