Damen Yacht Support Vessel Game Changer Sold

Dutch shipyard Damen has confirmed the successful sale of its 70-meter support vessel, Game Changer. The yacht will now return to Gorinchem in the Netherlands for further customisation. Game Changer  is Damen's fourth Yacht Support vessel sold in the 70-metre segment, proving the ongoing demand for large yachting solutions for worldwide adventures, helicopter and dive operations. Damen has a total of 12 Damen Yacht Support vessels delivered or in build. The next available Yacht Support vessel is a 55-metre YS 5009 Adventure, which will be delivered before the summer this year.

Ulstein’s X-BOW Turns 10

When times are tough, it is still possible to nurture and grow good ideas, says Ulstein, an provider of ship design, shipbuilding and system solutions for ships. That’s the story behind the ULSTEIN X-BOW hull line design, which upon its introduction 10 years ago turned the image of the ship’s bow upside down. Now in its 10th year, the 100th X-BOW shipbuilding contract was signed, and the X-BOW’s derivative, the X-STERN – a similar solution for the ship’s stern – has been contracted on its first two vessels.

While new designs often grab headlines, mature designs that have enjoyed success are perhaps better indicators of true progress in marine technology. When the Ultstein X-Bow made its debut 10 years ago, some scoffed at the unusual design characteristics. They laugh no more, as the Ultstein X-Bow hull line design turns 10. Now in its tenth year, the 100th X-BOW shipbuilding contract was signed, and the X-BOW’s derivative, the X-STERN – a similar solution for the ship’s stern – has been contracted on its first two vessels.

EU NAVFOR Develops Communication Technology

The British Royal Navy-led EU NAVFOR, the European Union’s first naval task force assembled to protect international shipping in the waters off Somalia, has partnered with IT service company Polymorph to develop a collaboration tool for its vessels. The tool will be designed to coordinate anti-piracy operations off the Somali coast and protect United Nations World Food Program (WFP) vessels delivering food to the region. The system will feature a single framework for communication and document exchange.

Bahri Drybulk Receives New 82,000 DWT Ship

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) subsidiary Bahri Dry Bulk (owned 60% by Bahri and 40% by Arasco) has taken delivery of the vessel 'Bahri Bulk' from shipbuilders in Japan. Bahri inform that this is the third vessel delivered from the 5 vessels that were contracted from leading Japanese shipyards in 2012. The financial impact of the delivered vessel will materialize during the first quarter of 2014G. They explain that these vessels have a capacity of 82,000 dwt and length of 229 meters, consumes less fuel and are considered to be eco-friendly.

Dive Support Vessel Delivered to Stapem Offshore

The first of two new 18-meter catamaran dive support vessels built for Paris-based Stapem Offshore has been delivered by South African shipbuilder Legacy Marine Group. The Marshal Island-flagged vessel, Stapem Beluga, will operate in the coastal waters of Angola in support of oil and gas exploration and production. The vessel, designed by Incat Crowther, has been customized to suit Stapem’s specific operational requirements. The aft exterior deck utilizes available space by combining deck lockers and racks for diving equipment storage with a covered dive prepping area.

A 5.5 year bareboat charter agreement between Polarcus Limited Norwegian subsidiary Polarcus Amani AS and SCF GEO AS (Sovcomflot) has been signed, and the vessel delivered to Sovcomflot in Bergen. The vessel was delivered without streamers, providing the Polarcus fleet with one excess streamer package, which the company said will significantly reduce its capital expenditure requirements through 2017 and 2018. The Polarcus Group now has two vessels on long-term bareboat charter and operates a fleet of four vessels in the contract market.

Research Ship for Namibia Delivered by STX Finland

The NB 1378, RV Mirabilis, equipped with DPS, is a  62.4 metres long and 14.3 metres wide versatile vessel. The tasks of the ship will include monitoring of fish stock, as well as sorting, processing, freezing and storage of fish, as well as collecting biological samples from the seabed and water quality research and analysis. Other tasks envisaged are the control of fishing off the African coast, and meteorologica research. RV Mirablis is provided with accommodation for 44 crew members and research personnel. “We are very satisfied to deliver the RV Mirabilis to the customer on schedule and as agreed. Cooperation both at the national level and between the project groups has been extremely good and close through the whole process," says Toivo Ilvonen, Director of STX Rauma Shipyard.

Offshore construction vessel Olympic Bibby, build no. 371 from Kleven Verft, has been delivered to Norwegian shipowner Olympic Shipping. The vessel has a long term charter with Bibby Offshore, and its first job will be on the British sector of the North Sea. The naming ceremony was held in Olympic’s home harbor Fosnavåg April 9. The vessel is 87.5 m long and 19 m wide, making the entrance to the narrow harbor (22 m wide) a spectacular sight, the builder noted. The vessel is of MT 6021 design from Marin Teknikk…

Offshore construction vessel Olympic Bibby, build no. 371 from Kleven Verft, has been delivered to Norwegian shipowner Olympic Shipping. The vessel has a long term charter with Bibby Offshore, and its first job will be on the British sector of the North Sea. The naming ceremony was held in Olympic’s home harbor Fosnavåg April 9. The vessel measures 87.5  x 19m, making the entrance to the narrow harbor (22m wide) a spectacular sight. The vessel is of MT 6021 design from Marin Teknikk, has accommodation for 68 persons, and is purpose built for subsea inspection, maintenance and repair work.

NAT Buys Two Suezmax Tankers

Nordic American Tankers Limited (NAT) today announced that the company has agreed to acquire two Suezmax vessels, delivered from a "top shipyard" in 2005. The agreed purchase price is $36.5 million each. The vessels are expected to be delivered to us no later than August, 2014. The acquisitions will be financed from the company's financial resources. Including the delivery of the current acquisitions, NAT will have a fleet of 22 Suezmax vessels - Which NAT said enhances its dividend and earnings capacity.

Swire Orders New Offshore Vessels

Swire Pacific Offshore Holdings (SPO) has signed an agreement with Qingdao Qianjin Shipyard, Qingdao, to build eight new "P" Class Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels (AHTS) for delivery in 2010 and 2011. The agreement was signed on 24th January by SPO's Managing Director. The new 4,800 hp, IMT957-design vessels will be 57 metres long, with a bollard pull of 60 metric tons; the first pair of AHTS is scheduled for delivery in August 2010, with the remaining pairs of vessels delivering at four-monthly intervals thereafter. The contract, which is worth in the region of US$100 million, completes the major part of an ongoing fleet replacement program…

Golar LNG Secures Charters for Carrier Duo

Golar LNG announced today that it has been awarded 2 time charters by Nigeria LNG Ltd ("NLNG") to employ the recently delivered Golar Frost and Golar Crystal. Employment of both vessels under these contracts will commence in January 2015 and will continue for a duration of approximately 12 months for each vessel. NLNG has elected to retire earlier than planned 3 of its smaller and less efficient LNG Carriers and to replace these with Golar's more modern and technically advanced ships, while NLNG awaits the delivery of its own recently ordered new vessels.

Bahri Receives New General Cargo Ship

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) receive the 'Bahri Hofuf' from the South Korean shipyard Hyundai Mipo. The new 26,000 dwt general cargo ship is the second vessel delivered from the six vessels that were contracted by the Company with this shipyard in 2011 for a total value of SAR 1,543 million. Bahri has four general cargo vessels remaining under construction at Hyundai MIPO in South Korea with delivery expected to take place during 2013 and the first half of 2014. Bahri say that the financial impact of the delivered vessel, Bahri Hofuf, on their revenue will materialize during the second quarter of 2013G.

Seaspan Accepts Delivery of Two New Vessels

Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) announced the delivery of its 44th and 45th vessels, the Guayaquil Bridge and the COSCO Japan. The Guayaquil Bridge, a 2500 TEU vessel delivered on March 5, 2010, was built by Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. It is on charter to Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. (K-Line) of Japan under a ten-year, fixed-rate time charter. The Guayaquil Bridge is the first of seven Seaspan vessels to be chartered to K-Line. The 8500 TEU COSCO Japan, which was constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., was also delivered on March 5, 2010. The COSCO Japan is on charter to COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. (COSCON) of China under a twelve-year, fixed-rate time charter. It is the third of eighteen vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to COSCON.

U.S. Shipyard, Silver Ships, Delivers Passenger Vessel to Nigeria

Alabama shipbuilders, Silver Ships, deliver a 30-foot passenger vessel to the U.S. The newbuild will join a sister vessel delivered several years ago to the same owner. The all aluminum passenger vessel will operate in the waters surrounding Lagos and has seating for 30 passengers. It is propelled by twin 250 h.p. Yamaha outboard engines and a 250-gallon fuel tank is provided. A full-length aluminum canopy will protect passengers from the extreme heat and inclement weather that is prevalent in Nigeria.

ABB Wins Orders Worth $30m

ABB, a power and automation technology group, has won orders worth $30m for electric propulsion, power generation and power distribution systems that maximize the fuel efficiency of offshore supply vessels to be built in China. ABB will provide an integrated electric propulsion solution for each of the vessels. The equipment, including generators, switchgear, transformers, drives and motors, will be delivered to the Fujian Mawei Shipyard on the southeast coast in 2010 and 2011. Offshore supply vessels deliver supplies, ranging from drill pipe to drinking water, to drilling rigs and platforms at sea. Electric propulsion systems equipped with variable speed drives consume significantly less compared with their conventional diesel-mechanical counterparts…
