Press release- Kongsberg Maritime has released its latest K-Sim Cargo simulator model, SCC-II, based on a Suezmax crude oil carrier with 12 cargo tanks and two slop tanks. Shown for the first time at Kongsberg Maritime’s European Simulator User Conference in Gothenburg this September, the new simulator model enables integrated, real-time exercises based on actual ship specifications and performance data on liquid cargo handling operations. The model is delivered with a sophisticated new Integrated Automation System (IAS) to replicate Cargo Control Room (CCR) operations.

The Board of Viking Supply Ships AB (under name change from Rederi AB Transatlantic) has decided to appoint Christian W. Berg as CEO of the company with immediate effect. Christian will in parallel continue as head of the Viking Supply Ships business area just as today. Christian W. Berg is born 1968 and has since 2011 been head of the business area Viking Supply Ships, coming previously from Chief Commercial Officer in Siem Offshore (2008-2011) which is a company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. From 1999 to 2008, Christian has had various leading positions at several companies, such as Promarine Ltd and Promarine AS, NavTech AS in Egersund and Horizon Mobile Communications in Singapore. Christian has had various board engagements within the scope of his employments.

Nordic American Offshore Ltd. (NAO) announced that Tor-Øyvind Bjørkli will join the company as chief executive officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2014. Tor-Øyvind will be working from out of the Oslo office on the same premises as Orion Tankers; the chartering department of Nordic American Tankers Limited (NAT). A subsidiary of Nordic American Tankers is the manager of the recently established Nordic American Offshore Ltd. (NAO). Tor-Øyvind graduated from Vestfold University College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering in 1992. He completed the Royal Norwegian Naval Officer Training School in 1993 and his Master of Science degree at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 1999.

Kongsberg Maritime simulation users gather to discuss key training topics. Student assessment and instructor training were hot topics of discussion at this year’s Kongsberg Maritime European Simulation User Conference (UC), which took place in Tønsberg, Norway, 24th – 27th September. The annual UC was this year co-hosted by Vestfold University College, which recently opened a new research park featuring several Kongsberg simulators. Approximately 150 delegates attended the UC…

Max Hartvigsen has been appointed by Jaya Holdings Ltd. as the organization’s new President of the Offshore Division, effective immediately. Max will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for business development, profit and loss for the fleet of owned and chartered vessels, and operational excellence of the fleet, including technical management, operational requirements and client management. Hartvigsen holds a Masters of Science in Shipping, Trade and Finance from the City University London, a Master Maritime Course from Vestfold University College, Norway, and a Bachelors of Science of Nautical Studies (Captain’s Degree).

Kongsberg Maritime will lead a new research project called ‘Situation Awareness and Decision Support Tools for demanding marine operations’ (SITAWARE), which kicks-off on February 2, 2012. Part-funded by the Norwegian Research Council and undertaken in collaboration with academic research partners Chalmers University in Sweden, Vestfold University College and Haugesund University College in Norway, the new project has been implemented as the foundation for a new generation of support systems and solutions for marine operations. Advanced and demanding marine operations have become more challenging (deeper waters, heavier loads, harsher environments) and control systems and organisations have consequently become more complicated.

Vestfold University College (HiVe) and MARIS have entered a co-operation agreement covering MARIS ECDIS900 product specific training. The co-operation will see HiVe offering tailor made, product specific hands-on training for the MARIS ECDIS, covering electronic charts and updates. The agreement will establish closer co-operation on research. HiVe will run product specific training courses on state of the art equipment, deploying its extensive in-house Maritime competence. HiVe offers a full range of research and development capability. At any given time, approximately 50 persons are involved in Ph.D projects. Duy-Tho Do, Dean of HiVe’s Faculty of Technology and Maritime Sciences, says:  “This is a strategic and valued agreement.

Kongsberg Maritime's simulation division and Vestfold University College has signed a framework agreement to further explore activities and projects of joint interest within research and development of maritime simulators from an innovation and human factor perspective. The agreement which was signed 22nd December 2010 comprises extensive R&D project plans and the use of an Interactive Simulator Laboratory (SIMSAM lab) at Vestfold University College, which will serve as a R&D facility. The agreement will include several R&D projects involving maritime simulators in different aspects.

Kongsberg Maritime AS, Simulation & Training has made an agreement with the Research Council of Norway to form a user-directed research program called SIMAR - Simulation of Demanding Maritime Operations - which is aimed at improving simulation training by enhancing focus on human factors. The main goal of the research project is to obtain new and improved knowledge of human factors in a learning environment based on simulated complex maritime operations, in order to develop a new generation of research based, maritime simulators for demanding and risky operations, e.g.

Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) held its 15th Annual Simulation Users’ Conference (UC-2002) in Tonsberg, Norway on June 16-21. UC-2002 was held in conjunction with the Vestfold University College and over 100 participants attended the five-day conference, of which 75 percent were KMSS customer delegates. The implementation of e-Learning in maritime education was the main focus of UC-2002 and participants were presented with an overflowing itinerary consisting of presentations, papers, workshops and social events, all of which proved a resounding success. As part of the conference KMSS presented an e-education workshop. This involved the demonstration of a suite of advanced training and e-learning tools that are set to transform the processes involved in maritime training.
