DigiGone Introduces DigiCrew Videoconferencing Service

DigiGone announced the introduction of a new videoconferencing service for crew welfare communications aboard ships at sea. The company’s new DigiCrew package enables the transmission of high-quality video via satellite, allowing crewmembers the freedom to see and communicate with family and friends ashore, no matter where their voyages take them. RigNet Installs SatCom Hub to Serve Brazil Offshore Industry

VT iDirect, Inc. say that RigNet, Inc. has deployed an iDirect Series 5IF Universal Satellite Hub in Guaratiba, Brazil, which will enable RigNet to accelerate its penetration of the region's growing oil and gas and energy maritime markets. Based on the network expansion, RigNet will offer a managed service for energy, deep-water maritime and remote applications such as VoIP, Internet, video-conferencing and video services. Dubai's Skystream Meets Connectivity Demands in Maritime & Energy Sectors

Sky-Stream selects two Eutelsat satellites to support increasing demands from maritime and energy sectors. Dubai-based Sky-Stream has selected capacity on two satellites operated by Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) to respond to connectivity demands from customers engaged in the marine and oil & gas sectors. Sky-Stream has contracted for a total of 70 MHz of bandwidth which will be progressively deployed on two Eutelsat satellites: EUTELSAT 3C and EUTELSAT 10A. Their combined footprint provides coverage across Europe and the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East and Africa. Sky-Stream will use the new capacity to offer GSM backhaul, Internet access and on-Demand video services to its maritime and oil & gas customers.

MTN Acquired by Perseus

Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), of Miramar, Fla., a provider of satellite-based communications, networking and other services to the cruise and offshore oil and gas industries, announced completion of its acquisition by an affiliate of Perseus, L.L.C. Perseus is a merchant bank and private equity fund management company with offices in Washington, D.C. and New York City. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Over the past year, MTN has significantly expanded in its core markets and made significant inroads in its military business. In March 2004, MTN launched a joint venture with Cingular Wireless (formerly AT&T Wireless) to give passengers on North American cruises the ability to use their own mobile phones at sea for the first time.

Stratos Announces Expansion

Stratos Global Corporation has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Shell Offshore Inc.'s telecommunications subsidiary, Shell Offshore Services Company (SOSCo). The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. "The acquisition of SOSCo is consistent with Stratos' long-term strategy of providing communications solutions to high volume industrial customers operating in remote locations," explains Derek Woods, president and CEO of Stratos. Based in New Orleans, SOSCo uses a state-of-the-art digital microwave system to provide voice, data and video services, Internet access and network connectivity to more than 250 remote drilling rigs and production platforms located offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
