Arjen Uytendaal Suceeds Francis Vallat as President of ENMC

Francis Vallat, originally co- founder and 1st Vice-President of the European Network of Maritime Clusters (ENMC), which was created in 2005 in his Paris office, and current Chairman since 2011, decided to resign from his chairmanship on the occasion of the annual meeting which was held in Elsinore, Denmark from October 25th to 26th. After six years at the head of the network, he thinks it is time to give a younger highly reputable maritime personality a chance to allow new ideas and blood into the ENMC. As a matter of fact it came as no surprise as the transition had been carefully prepared since autumn 2016, ie when Francis Vallat confirmed that his decision was irrevocable.

Fincantieri Launches Italian Navy Frigate

Riva Trigoso (Genoa) shipyard celebrated the launch of the frigate Alpino, the fifth of a series of 10 FREMM vessels - Multi Mission European Frigates, ordered from Fincantieri by the Italian Navy within the framework of an Italo-French program of cooperation. Godmother to the ship was Maria Rosa Solimano, cousin of Francesco Solimano awarded with the Gold Medal of Military Valor. Two Prestigious Awards for Fincantieri

In the presence of the Minister for Education, University, and Research Stefania Giannini, at the Auditorium at Villa Farnesina in Rome, Fincantieri, represented by its Chairman Vincenzo Petrone, today won one of the prizes in the Major Industrial Groups category during the National Award for Innovation ceremony. The prestigious prize was awarded to Fincantieri for promoting an innovation culture among youngsters and for having won the Andrea Pininfarina Award for Business Innovation, assigned by Confindustria. Now in its sixth year, the National Award for Innovation, better known as the “Prize of Prizes for Innovation”, is the most important award dedicated to “Made in Italy” innovations.

ASSONAVE: Shipbuilding Trending Upward

The Annual Meeting of ASSONAVE, the association of Italian shipbuilders, ship-repairers and producers of marine components and systems took place in Rome recently, chaired by its President, Vincenzo Petrone. The Association explains that this was the first meeting to take place after it expanded its membership to include major companies such as Elettronica, Oto Melara, RINA Services, Selex ES and WASS – all operating in high- technology sectors – and welcomed the Federazione del Mare, representing the Italian maritime cluster, as member of its Executive Committee.
