Regional Route Sharing Introduced in Baltic Sea

Maritime digitalization carried out in the European project EfficienSea2 has enabled effective route sharing between different VTS systems in the Baltic Sea. It has the potential to drastically cut the reporting effort for the ship’s crew, while offering authorities a better ability to ensure safe traffic at sea. The days may soon be over when mariners have to pick up a radio to take on the cumbersome task of reporting their vessel and route parameters every time they cross into a new VTS area – at least for those sailing in the Baltic Sea. Industry Targets Improved Offshore Leak Detection

Leak detection is a considerable challenge facing the industry, and DNV GL has therefore taken the lead in establishing a new Joint Industry Project (JIP). Twenty key industry players are partnering to develop a best practice for designing and implementing offshore leak detection systems. Over the last few years, following several oil releases, there has been an increasing focus by both operators and authorities on the environmental impact related to offshore oil and gas activities.

Kelvin Hughes to Supply Sharpeye Radar Systems

Kelvin Hughes announced that it has been contracted by VisSim, a VTMS system provider and integrator, to supply a total of 11 SharpEye radar sets for the protection of offshore facilities in Azerbaijan. As part of VisSim’s Marine Asset Protection and Surveillance System, Kelvin Hughes will be providing 10 SBS-800-1 (3.7m antenna) systems for offshore production platforms in the Caspian Sea, typically two radars per platform, and one SBS-800-2 (5.5m antenna) that will be installed onshore.
