VOC Port Sets New Record

South India's VO Chidambaranar Port created a new record by handling 1,80,597 MT of cargo in a single day on July 27 this year, surpassing the previous single day record of 1,77,639 MT on November 16, 2017.The fourth-largest container terminal in India said in a statement that major cargoes of the day include coal (79,230 MT), containerized cargo (52,200 MT / 2,900 TEUs) and general cargo (49,167 MT).The state-controlled port has also handles highest parcel size of 85,224 MT. Last Thursday, the port had berthed a vessel with the highest parcel size of 85,224 MT.The Cyprus-flagged vessel ‘MV Kmax Emperor’ carrying limestone arrived from the Port of Mina Saqr, United Arab Emirates.

Nitin Gadkari Flags Off First Container Vessel at Tuticorin

Indian Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari Wednesday flagged off the maiden container mainline vessel at VoC Port (Tuticorin Port), opening direct shipping route to eastern countries.Calling the step a "gamechanger in container traffic of South India", Gadkari said that Tuticorin has the potential to become a "major industrial hub".At present containers from Tuticorin to Far East countries viz Malaysia, Singapore, China and Hong Kong are transited by the feeder vessels to Colombo where they are further connected to the mother vessel .With Mainline call being done directly at Tuticorin, there will be saving on account of the  transshipment cost. EXIM trade will benefit and there will be a saving of approximately 50 USD  per container as handling of container at Colombo will not be required.

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Sets New Record

India government-owned V O Chidambaranar Port Trust (VOCPT) in Chennai created a new record for single day handling of cargo yesterday, when it handled 36,526 Metric Tonnes of thermal coal at the berth NCB-I from the vessel MV. Asian Champion. The previous single day record was 35,656 Metric Tonnes of thermal coal at the same berth from the vessel MV. Tentenc on 30.10.2016. Shri I. Jeyakumar, Chairman of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust said that this Port is continuously striving to achieve improvement in performance and productivity in order to attract more volume of traffic. VOCPT is in the process of channel-deepening and breakwater construction project to help larger ships to call at the port located in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district.

Tandgedo-VOC Port Sign MoU for Coal Jetty

India's V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port is all set for a four-fold increase in the capacity of two of its Coal Jetties – Jetty I and II from 6.25 million metric tonnes per annum to 24 MTPA. The state-run power utility Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco)  has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with VOC, Tuticorin for the construction of new Coal Jetty I and provision of shore unloaders and conveyor systems. The Minister of Shipping and Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise, Government of Tamil Nadu P. Thangamani were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari said that the project would benefit both Tangedco and the VOCPT.

Paradip Port Cargo Volume Looks Up

Among five major ports on the east coast Paradip Port topped the list with 28.65 million tonnes of cargo for the first four months, followed by Chennai Port 17.42 million tonnes, V.O.C Port 13.07 million tonnes, Krishnapatnam Port 11.57 million tonnes and Kamarajar Port close to 9 million tonnes. The five ports have collectively handled about 80 million tonnes of cargo during the first four months of the current fiscal year, fuelled by imports of coal and petroleum, oil and lubricant (POL) products. Paradip Port handled a record throughput of 8.06 MMT in a single month - July,2016 - surpassing the earlier highest record handling of 7.61 MMT cargo in the month of March, 2016.

VOC Port Trust All-time Record Cargo Handling

V.O. Chidambaranar Port handled an all-time record cargo traffic of 32.41 million tonnes during 2014-15, registering an increase of 13.17 per cent over the previous year’s volume of 28.64 million tonnes. According to Chairman of VOC Port Trust S. Anantha Chandra Bose, this was 1.28 per cent higher than the target of 32 million tonnes set by the Ministry of Shipping. The port crossed the target of 32.00 mt by handling 32.03 mt on March 28. In containers, the port handled a record throughput of 5,59,727 TEUs and there is an increase of 10.24 percentage when compared with the previous year’s container traffic at 5,07,735 TEUs. Imports accounted for 23.99 million tonnes, registering an increase of 14.35 per cent over the previous year’s import traffic of 20.98 million tonnes.

Record Cargo Traffic at VOC Port

V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust, Tuticorin, has crossed the previous year’s traffic of 28.642 million tonnes on Feb 27, 32 days ahead of the current financial year closing by handling 28.849 million tones (upto Feb 27). According to a statement from the VOC Port Trust, the Port crossed the previous year’s (2013-14) Container traffic volume of 5,07,735 TEUs on March 3, by handling 5,08,678 TEUs of Container Traffic during the current year (as on March 3). VOC Port has handled record cargo traffic of 3.235 mln Tonnes during February, surpassing the previous achievement of 2.853 mln tonnes handled during March 2014, which is the highest ever tonnage handled at the port in a single month so far.

VOC Port Begins Cargo Shipping to Dubai

The first regular container service to Dubai from V.O. Chidambaranar Port in India commenced on Tuesday. Chairman of the VOC Port Trust S. Anantha Chandra Bose inaugurated the service being operated by Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal Private Limited on the 8{+t} {+h} berth of the port. VOC Port will in a month run four container services, which would sail from berth 8 at the port run by Dakshin Barath Gateway Terminal Pvt Ltd (DBGT), to Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. MV ‘SSL Gujarat’ with its maiden call hauling general cargo of 507 TEUs –Twenty Foot Equivalent units in 487 containers would reach Jebel Ali Port. The mainline container cargo shipping service…
