Ship Carrying 3,000 Cars Burns off Dutch Coast, One Dead

A fire blazed on a cargo ship off the Dutch coast with nearly 3,000 vehicles on board on Wednesday, killing one member of the crew and injuring several others, the coastguard said.Several crew members were forced to jump overboard after the fire began on Tuesday night on the 199-metre (655-foot) Panama-registered Fremantle Highway as it was en route from Germany to Egypt.The Indian Embassy in the Netherlands said in a social media post the fire had "resulted in the death of an Indian seafarer and injuries to the crew", and that it was in touch with family of the deceased.

He holds Master’s degrees in both Marine Technology and Technical Management of Ship Operations and is a Chartered Engineer registered with Engineering Council UK.

Verifavia Shipping Leads in EU MRV and IMO DCS IT System Certification

Verifavia Shipping claimed success in the independent certification of IT systems and solutions designed to support compliance with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Data Collection System (DCS) regulation and European Union (EU) Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV).With both regulations now in force, increasing numbers of IT systems are available to assist ship owners and operators in collating and reporting emissions data, all of which need to strictly adhere to the relevant legal requirements."More than 30 of these systems have now been certified or are currently undergoing certification by Verifavia," the emissions verification company for the transport sector (aviation and shipping) said in a press release.According to the release…

Wallem, Zeaborn Choose Verifavia Shipping for EU MRV Monitoring

Wallem Ship Management in Hong Kong and Zeaborn Ship Management in Hamburg have chosen  Verifavia Shipping for European Union (EU) Reporting and Verification (MRV) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Data Collection System (DCS), as well as certification of associated IT systems.The emissions verification company for the transport sector said in a press release that trough their agreement with Zeaborn Ship Management, Verifavia Shipping will provide EUV verification services as well as the status of their flag.It will also be certified by Zeaborn Ship Management for these regulations. For Wallem, Verifavia will also provide verification services for EU MRV and IMO DCS across a number of its Liberia and Panama flagged vessels, and Vertex SMMS.

Wallem Welcomes First Vessel Under Japanese Flag

The Aphrodite Leader, a pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), is the first vessel under Wallem Ship Management to come under the Japanese Flag.The Aphrodite Leader completed the various inspections, audits and surveys in accordance with the Japanese Flag requirements. The vessel then officially changed over to Japanese Flag upon receipt of the statutory certificates from the Japanese Government and Class NK.This marks a positive milestone as Wallem is now one of just a few international ship managers capable of managing Japanese Flag vessels.

SeaSafe Marine Wins Höegh Contract

SeaSafe Marine has signed a sole service supplier agreement with Höegh-Wallem Ship Management Inc. to provide services and spares for the lifeboat systems on their fleet’s 38 vessels. "The tender process for this appointment was very competitive but we were able to offer assurances on service delivery and scope of benefits and that we will provide Höegh with the proactive support that they require,” Andrew said. This appointment brings the total number of third-party vessels under formal contract with SeaSafe Marine to over 170.

Höegh Autoliners signed a nine vessel ship management deal with Wallem Ship Management yesterday at the Höegh headquarters in Oslo, Norway. The ship management agreement cements a deal between the companies, with Wallem delivering technical and crew management to nine PCTCs from its Singapore base. Wallem Chooses DNV Navigator

Wallem installs DNV Navigator to its fleet of more than 190 ships. Wallem Ship Management in Hong Kong has ordered DNV Navigator for its managed fleet of more than 190 ships. The contract also includes the Work and Rest Hours module allowing for compliance with international legislation on rest hours for seafarers. DNV Navigator is a dedicated decisions support tool for assisting the Master in handling the administrative and regulatory complexity of port operations. The new contract is the largest ever signed for DNV Navigator.

New Bergesen Worldwide Gas Deal for MTS

Marine Transaction Services (MTS), a leading provider of second generation e-business solutions, has recently secured a contract with Bergesen Worldwide Gas ASA (BW Gas), formerly Bergesen d.y. ASA. The agreement comprises MTS’ product Buyerlink, which provides BW Gas with access to MTS’ integrated trading network, as well as Electronic Invoicing. MTS has for the past 3 years delivered one-2-one connectivity services to BW Gas. This contract marks BW Gas’ transition to full-scale MTS customer. “This is a natural progression towards a fully electronically supported supply chain for BW Gas.
