Attorney Wins Award for Paper on Coastal Zone Management

The Rhode Island Bar Association honored Rhode Island real estate and environmental lawyer John M. Boehnert with the Rhode Island Bar Journal Lauren E. Jones Writing Award for his article “Rhode Island’s Coastal Resources Management Program and the Coastal Zone Management Act’s Federal Consistency Program”. The federal consistency program gives States the ability to challenge, and actually veto, federal permits sought by other states or private parties to engage in activities, even in federal waters, which may adversely impact a challenging state’s coastal zone management program. Weavers Cove LNG facility – letter of recommendation

The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Notice stating that, in response to a Letter of Intent to operate a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Weavers Cove, Fall River, Massachusetts to accept shipments of LNG by water, the Coast Guard is preparing a letter of recommendation as to the suitability of the Narragansett Bay waterways for LNG marine traffic. Comments pertaining to maritime operation and waterways management aspects of the proposed LNG facility should be submitted by November 1. 69 Fed. Reg. 53455 (HK Law).

FERC approves two LNG terminals, disapproves one

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced that it approved proposals to construct and operate two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminals and disapproved one proposal. The approved facilities are the Weavers Cove project at Fall River, Massachusetts and the Golden Pass project to be constructed in Texas and Louisiana. The disapproved facility was proposed to have been in Providence, Rhode Island. (HK Law).
