ClassNK CMAXS for Two MOL Ships

ClassNK Consulting Service Co., Ltd. developed next-generation diagnostic monitoring system “ClassNK CMAXS” has been chosen by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for installation on two more ships operated by the company. The system is now installed on a total of six MOL-operated ships. The two ships are installed with CMAXS e-GICSX, a system which monitors electrically controlled main engine supplied by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and CMAXS LC-A for auxiliary engines supplied by DAIHATSU DIESEL MFG. CO, LTD. Both CMAXS systems operate simultaneously, gathering information from VDR, data logger and main engine. This information (Big Data) is consolidated on a common platform for analysis and the potential future improvement.

MSC, INTTRA Address Container Weight Rules

Container shipping company MSC and ocean shipping electronic marketplace INTTRA have entered a new partnership aiming to introduce a customer-friendly solution to new container weight safety regulations. Under the agreement, MSC will use INTTRA's eVGM software as a channel for receiving verified gross mass (VGM) submissions from shippers. As of July 1, under the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) GM amendment, no container will be cleared to be loaded onto a ship until the shipper or its designee provides a verified weight to the carrier.

ClassNK Releases Improved "e-Application"

ClassNK announced the release of an improved "e-Application" system. This improvement was planned based on requests from the users. Therefore, firstly we would like to show our appreciation to the kind feedback from our customers. 1. e-Application users can find ClassNK office in charge from a place of survey (port) using the search function. 2. e-Application users can search and re-use data of previous application. 3. NK-SHIPS users registered as a Sub User and a Temporary User can use e-Application. * NK-SHIPS User (Original User) needs to authorize each users to access e-Application on the NK-SHIPS / Management of Temporary User / Sub User menu. Furthermore, the operability of each pages have been improved. - What is the "e-Application"?

Class Direct App Launched by Lloyd’s Register

This new app, using the functionality of LR’s award-winning web service Class Direct, has been specifically designed to give users access to the information they need whenever and wherever, and is available now for free on iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Users of the Class Direct app are able to book a survey with LR, monitor and check the status of their vessel’s surveys, browse the classification data LR holds for specific vessels and create a list of their “favorite” vessels for quicker access.

Northport Systems Upgrades Navigation Softwre

Software developer Northport Systems Inc. has announced the latest enhancement to its innovative Fugawi Marine 5 marine navigation software, Theyr Weather. Fugawi Marine 5 allows for simple download, management, and display of high-resolution weather data from the X-Traverse web service, eliminating the need to sift through low quality GRIB files from multiple, hard-to-find sources. Whether planning a multiday journey or trying to spot the biggest wave, Theyr’s GRIB data keeps boaters informed of the weather conditions most relevant to their on-the-water excursions.

NOAA Unveils New Electronic Chart Online Viewer

For more than ten years, since NOAA introduced its electronic navigational charts, you have needed to purchase a specialized chart display system to view the NOAA ENC® as a seamless chart database. Starting today, you don’t need a system to view the ENC depictions; you can use Coast Survey’s new web-based viewer called NOAA ENC® Online . (IMMEDIATE CAVEAT: You still need a specialized display system to use the multi-layered functional data that make ENCs so valuable. Since NOAA ENC Online is web-based, there is nothing to download.

INTTRA Introduce Enhanced Multi-Carrier Ocean Schedule Software

JSMEA To Debut Zohaku Web

The Japanese Marine Equipment Association (JSMEA) and its constituents will again be demonstrating what they dub the most advanced and sophisticated technologies developed in Japan at SMM. During the exhibition, the Ship & Ocean Foundation (SOF) will present the concept of the Zohaku Web, a new system which was designed and created to enable the exchange of technical information between shipyards and marine equipment suppliers via Internet websites. The three-year project was carried out by SOF with grants from the Nippon Foundation since 1998. The project has attracted 100 organizations in Japan (current participants include 21 shipbuilders and 71 ship equipment manufacturers) and has quickly become a major product in the Japanese maritime market.
