Weeks Marine Takes Delivery of Hopper Dredge Magdalen

Weeks Marine’s new self-propelled hopper dredge, Magdalen, was delivered by Eastern Shipbuilding on December 22 following sea trials and regulatory inspections. The newbuild is one of the two newest, and among the largest hopper dredges in the U.S., and will bring formidable pumping power to offload beach quality sand or other materials for land reclamation. On December 28, the new dredger sailed from Eastern's Allanton facility in Panama City, Fla. on her maiden voyage to the East Coast.

BAE Mobile Yard Wins Dredge Contract

BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards Alabama has been selected by Weeks Marine, Inc. to build an 8,500 cubic yard capacity twin screw trailing suction hopper dredge at its Mobile, Alabama facility. Upon completion, dimensions of the vessel will be 356-feet long, 79-feet wide with a draft of 27 feet. Weeks Marine, Inc., which has its dredging headquarters in Covington, Louisiana, is one of the largest providers of dredging services in the United States. This will be a state-of-the art trailing suction hopper dredge and the first designed by IHC Merwede to be built in the United States. IHC Merwede, located in The Netherlands, is a world leader in the design and construction of advanced dredging equipment.

Weeks Marine Selects SeaStar

Weeks Marine has selected Seaworthy Systems SeaStarTM Maintenance Management System for its towing fleet. Seaworthy will deliver turnkey systems containing vessels equipment, customized maintenance plans, and inventory for 12 Tugs and associated barges. Additionally regulatory compliance and the responsible carrier program will be included. The system will also be installed shore side. System training will be provided by Seaworthy's marine engineers. Seaworthy has installed over 150 marine maintenance systems.

GE Marine Engines Grab Orders at IWS 2012

GE Marine take 16 orders at the 2012 International WorkBoat Show (IWS) in New Orleans to deliver L250 and V250 engines. A combined total of 16 engines have been ordered for newbuilds and repowers by new customer Hyak Maritime and by an existing customer of GE Marine, Weeks Marine, Inc. Headquartered in Delaware, Hyak Maritime selected GE engines for the main propulsion of two 120-foot ASD Titan Class tugs. GE Marine will provide four 2,679 horsepower 8L250 engines to power these tugs. One of the largest marine dredging and tunneling contractors in the United States and Canada, Weeks Marine, Inc. has ordered four 6L250 and eight 16V250 engines to power and repower dredge pumps, serve as main propulsion and power gensets. These GE Marine L250 and V250 engines are ABS classed and meet U.S.

Weeks Marine Selects Vessel 365 for SubM Compliance

Weeks Marine has selected MarineCFO’s Vessel 365 product to achieve Subchapter M compliance for the 15 tugs in its Marine Services Division. Jan Andrusky, Towing General Manager for Weeks Marine, said, "We are very pleased with the Vessel 365 product. ASA Announces New Leaders

George Wittich, Senior Vice President of Weeks Marine has been named President of the American Salvage Association (ASA). John Witte, Jr., Executive Vice President of Donjon Marine Co., Inc. (Hillside, NJ), has been named ASA’s Vice President, and Paul Gallagher, Director of Sales – Marine Transportation, Foss Maritime (Seattle, WA), has been elected Secretary/Treasurer.

Weeks Marine Orders $60 Mln Cutter Dredger

Weeks Marine Inc. (WMI) has ordered a new $60 million oceangoing, 30-inch hydraulic cutter suction dredge, the JS Chatry. Construction is underway in Belle Chase, La., at C&C Marine and Repair. “While the national coastal restoration and protection market is growing, we are especially optimistic about the market here in Louisiana. We have taken note of the Governor’s and the Legislature’s commitment to the Master Plan and the protection of critical dedicated funds for their intended purpose,” said Richard S. Weeks, WMI President. “The JS Chatry is the next advance in technology, efficiency and productivity and I am excited about what it means for both Weeks Marine and for the capacity of nation’s dredging industry,” said Eric W. Ellefsen, WMI’s Executive Vice President.

WMI, ESG Sign Contract to Complete Dredger

Weeks Marine, Inc. (WMI) and Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) signed a contract to complete the construction of its Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger, the MAGDALEN. This 356’ Twin Screw Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger will be constructed at Eastern’s Allanton Panama City, Florida facility. Weeks Marine is another Eastern repeat client. This new construction Dredger project continues our commitment to the US Jones Act maritime industry and its long history of being a successful diversified US Shipbuilder.

IHC Merwede Wins €200m in Orders

HC Merwede won orders for vessels and equipment in its core markets of dredging and offshore to the value of €200m. The latest agreements confirmed by IHC Merwede include: a new pipelaying vessel for Subsea 7; an engineering and components package for the build of a trailing suction hopper dredger with BAE Systems (USA); an environmentally friendly deep-water dredger for Zheijang Dredging (China); and a 5,000-tonne capacity carousel-lay system for Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. IHC Merwede’s assignment with Subsea 7 is for the design, engineering and construction of a new advanced pipelaying vessel, which will have an overall length of 146m, a beam of 30m and a Class-2 dynamic positioning system.

DofD Latest Dredging & Ship Repair Contracts

Weeks Marine has been awarded a substantial dredging contract, and NASSCO a contract for the phased maintenance of  'USS Peleliu'. Weeks Marine Inc., Covington, La., was awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract with a maximum value of $12,728,225 for dredging services in support of various projects. Work will be performed in West Baton Rouge Parish, La.; West Feliciana Parish, La.; St. Martin Parish, La.; and St. Mary Parish, La. The type of appropriation will be determined with each order. The bid was solicited through the Internet, with three bids received. The Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans, La., is the contracting activity (W912P8-13-D-0010). National Steel and Shipbuilding Co.

News: Vessel Tied off to Mooring Buoy Must Comply with Anchor Rules

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit ruled that a vessel tied off to a mooring buoy is anchored, rather than moored. In the instant case, defendant's barge was tied off to a mooring buoy outside the regular navigation channel. The barge was not lit at night, nor was it sounding fog signals. Plaintiff's shrimp boat got off course at night in the fog and allided with the barge. Defendant contended that it did not contribute to the allision. The court held that, since the barge was anchored, rather than moored, and was not lit and was not sounding signals, that it was in violation of the navigation rules. Crane Barge Capsizes Near Staten Island

A barge carrying a crane capsized near at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008. The CB Sussex reported that the crane it was transporting fell partially into the water and onto the Atlantic Salt Flats.  There were no injuries reported but 50 gallons of oil was said to have spilled. "Coast Guard investigators are enroute to the scene of the incident to assess the severity of the situation," said Lt.j.g. Timothy McDonald, a Sector New York command duty officer.  "The spill has been contained and is being cleaned up by Weeks Marine." The cause of the incident is under investigation.

New U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Contract

Weeks Marine Inc, Covington, LA. was awarded on July 14, 2009 a $6,169,751 firm-fixed-price for the construction Dredging, Mississippi River, New Orleans Harbor Cutterhead Dredge Rental Contract No. 01-2009, Orleans and Jefferson Parishes, LA.  Work is to be performed in New Orleans and Jefferson Parishes, LA. with an estimated completion date of Nov. 22, 2009. Bids were solicited on the World Wide Web with three bids received. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, New Orleans, LA. is the contracting activity (W912P8-09-C-0076).  

New USACE Contract

Weeks Marine, Inc., Covington, La., was awarded on Aug. 14, 2009 a $14,877,000 firm-fixed-price contract for Atchafalaya River and Bayous Chene, Boeuf, and black, Atchafalaya Bar Channel, Maintenance Dredging C/L Sta. 475+00, Non-Continuous (09-2), St. Mary Parish, La.  Work is to be performed in St. Mary Parish, La., with an estimated completion date of Dec. 12, 2009.  Bids were solicited using the World Wide Web with two bids received.  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, New Orleans, La. is the contracting activity (W912P8-09-C-0103).

New USACE Contracts

Weeks Marine, Inc., Covington, La., was awarded on Feb. 25, 2010, a $58,509,050 firm-fixed-price contract for work consisting of mechanical and hydraulic construction of containment levees requiring deep excavation to minus-70 ft, shoreline protection, and spillbox rehab to increase the capacity of Placement Areas 14 and 15; and maintenance and new work dredging of the Houston Galveston Navigation Channel Bayport to Morgans Point with four options.  Work is to be performed at Harris County, Texas, and Chambers County, Texas, with an estimated completion date of March 31, 2012.  Thirty-four bids were solicited with four bids received.  U.S. Army Engineer District Galveston, Texas, is the contracting activity (W912HY-10-C-0016).

Roehrig Maritime Adds Tug to Fleet

Roehrig Maritime has purchased Tug HEIDI E. ROEHRIG, formerly the Weeks Marine Tug Matthew. The Heidi is 3300 HP, with a 105 ft. LOA, 32 ft. beam, and a 13.6 ft. draft. She has an Alman Johnson Tow Machine with 2000 ft. of 2 inch wire, and has 48,000 gallons of fuel capacity. Roehrig Maritime LLC was founded in 1990 and operates seven well maintained tugs ranging from 2400 horsepower to 6000 horsepower. The company's success has been based on an operating philosophy of providing superior customer service by combining well maintained tug boats with skilled mariners. Roehrig Maritime provides towing services along the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico.

Weeks Marine Awarded DoD Mississippi Dredge Contract

US Department of Defense inform that Weeks Marine, Inc., Covington, Louisiana, was awarded an $18,700,000 firm-fixed-price contract with options for Mississippi River hopper dredge disposal from Baton Rouge to the Gulf of Mexico. DoD explains that work will be performed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with an estimated completion date of Feb. 10, 2015. Fiscal 2014 other procurement funds in the amount of $18,700,000 are being obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans, Louisiana, is the contracting activity (W812P8-14-C-0055).  

IHC Merwede secures €200million in New Orders

IHC Merwede is pleased to announce that it has recently secured orders for advanced vessels and equipment in its core markets of dredging and offshore to the value of €200million.
