Titanic ll Project Signs Up Original Survivor's Grandson
Blue Star Line say that Phiip Littlejohn has joined the Titanic Advisory Board: he is the grandson of Alexander James Littlejohn, 1st Class Steward 'RMS Titanic'. Alexander Littlejohn survived the sinking after being ordered to row Lifeboat 13. After the disaster Alexander returned to work for the White Star Line on RMS Olympic, until the outbreak of WW1, in 1914. Blue Star Line say that his grandson Philip lectures throughout the UK and abroad including lecturing on the Titanic 100th Anniversary Cruise in 2012. He took part in a BBC TV documentary where he dived to the wreck of the Titanic.
Titanic ll Blueprints Unveiled
Australian mining entrepreneur Clive Palmer intends the ship to largely recreate the design and decor of the ill-fated original. The original design of the Titanic will be modified to keep it in line with current safety rules and shipbuilding practices, and the addition of some modern comforts such as air conditioning, reports the China Daily. White Star Line, the operator of the original ship, had said the Titanic was designed to be unsinkable. Some 1,500 people died on Titanic's maiden voyage in 1912 from Southampton to New York after the ship collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic.
Cunard Narrows Field To Five
Cunard Line says it has five bids from European shipyards to build the Queen Mary 2, a rare new transatlantic liner that will rank with the world's largest passenger ships upon its completion in 2003. "Some yards are quoting bids in euros, some in D-marks, some in pound sterling," Cunard Line President Larry Pimentel said. Pimentel declined to identify the shipyards in a brief interview after a news conference aboard Cunard's Queen Elizabeth 2 but said all bidders were based in Europe. He also declined to provide details of the bids or finances for the planned Queen Mary 2, a successor with a "wedding cake" profile to the Queen Mary, built in 1936 for Cunard-White Star Line. The company announced plans to build the Queen Mary 2 in November.
Casino Boat Catches Fire off Florida Coast, 15 Injured
At least 15 people were injured when a fire engulfed a boat off the coast of Florida on Sunday, causing the 50 people aboard to jump into the Gulf of Mexico and swim to shore, local officials said. A preliminary investigation showed the fire broke out at about 4:17 p.m. EST from an apparent engine issue, said Shawn Whited, division chief with Pasco Fire Rescue. “The captain of the boat said there was an issue with the engine. He said he noticed smoke coming form the engine room and turned the boat around,” Whited said.
Norsafe Enters the Cruise and Passenger Ferry Market
Lifeboat manufacturer Norsafe has developed a new partially enclosed lifeboat (PELB) for passenger vessels: the SOLAS compliant Minima 88, a compact 8.8m long boat with a width of 4.25m for 150 persons. Norsafe said it has received an order from Chinese shipbuilder Xiamen Shipyard to provide six of its new Minima-88 lifeboats with compatible LHD-200 davits for Finland based operator Viking Line. The ferry newbuild is due to enter service in 2021 on routes across the Baltic Sea between Turku, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.

Titanic's Last Luncheon Menu Heading to Auction
More than a century after first-class passengers aboard the ill-fated Titanic ate grilled mutton chops and custard pudding in an elaborate dining room, the ship's last luncheon menu is expected to fetch up to $70,000 in an online auction, a curator said on Monday. The luxury cruise liner sank in the Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912 after striking an iceberg during its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York. Tuesday marks 30 years since the wreckage of the ship, which had been dubbed unsinkable, was discovered on the ocean floor by a team of researchers.
Businessman To Discuss Titanic Replica
South African businessman Sarel Gous is expected to visit Belfast next week to discuss plans to build a replica of the Titanic and launch it as a commercial cruise liner. Gous reportedly paid Harland & Wolff, the builders of the original Titanic, to do a feasibility study and is traveling to Belfast to meet city council members and discuss his plans. In 1998 Gous secured the original plans of the Titanic, which was owned by the White Star shipping line.
The New “Class” of Celebrity’s Class
It could be dubbed "the new classic." Cunard Creates The Classic Liner (Again)
First announced in June 1998 by the company that prides itself on "its growth lying in its past," Cunard Line Limited has plans to construct the world's largest passenger vessel to ever sail the high seas. Scheduled for completion 2003, Queen Mary 2 will measure a record 1,100 ft. (335.2 m). Cunard's, in its 160 years in business, has embodied classic style. The company has guaranteed the continuation of this reputation for several decades with the introduction of its Queen Mary 2 project. Rough plans for the vessel were introduced in November, and at press time a contract to build the vessel in a European yard was imminent. Cunard divulged that the new ship's interiors will be similar to that of White Star Line's Titanic, while its hull will be painted in classic matte black.
President Bush Announces STAR Initiative
In conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference in Los Cabos, Mexico, the White House issued a Fact Sheet discussing the Secure Trade in the APEC Region (STAR) Initiative, which is intended to enhance security while increasing trade. The STAR Initiative commits APEC economies to accelerate action on screening people and cargo for security before transit, increasing security on ships and airplanes while en route, and enhancing security in seaports and airports. Sea Star Line, TOTE Leadership Changes
Effective January 1, 2014, Sea Star Line (SSL) President Peter Keller will become Executive Vice President of Sea Star Line’s parent company, TOTE, Inc. In this new capacity he will assist in the oversight of both TOTE Shipholdings and the TOTE Maritime Division, which includes Sea Star Line and Totem Ocean Trailer Express (Totem Ocean). Keller joined TOTE in February of 2012 as President of Sea Star Line and has been leading the conversion of the company’s fleet to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
Sea Star Receives New Refrigerated Containers
Sea Star Line, LLC recently took delivery of 150 new 40’ refrigerated containers in year two of a five year equipment replacement plan. The replacement plan aims to reduce the average age of the entire Sea Star Line refrigerated container fleet to less than three years. The new 40’ refrigerated containers are set to arrive at the Blount Island Terminal in Jacksonville, Florida in June 2013. The reefers will be fit with Carrier PrimeLine Machinery, the latest technology available for refrigerated equipment.
Sea Star Line, ACT Sign LNG Bunkering System Agreement
Sea Star Line, LLC and Applied Cryo Technologies (ACT), in cooperation with Dragon Products, have finalized plans for the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering system that will supply Sea Star Line’s new ships. Sea Star Line and its parent company TOTE are building the world’s first LNG-powered containerships that will begin serving the Puerto Rican market later this year. The LNG bunkering system is a critical part of the LNG supply chain for the Marlin Class ships. The system is comprised of 25 cryogenic IMO tanks that will transport LNG from Georgia to Jacksonville. In addition, ACT will ensure that the new ships can be fueled safely and effectively in under six hours, enabling Sea Star Line to maintain its on-time commitment to the people of Puerto Rico.

Sea Star Line Expands Puerto Rico Service
Sea Star Line, LLC has announced that they are adding the Port of Philadelphia to its rotation. Sea Star Line vessels will service the port weekly, making calls to the Tioga Marine Terminal each Friday beginning, April 23, 2010. This will replace the current agreement with Horizon Lines, LLC, however cargo will still be accepted in Elizabeth, N.J. Sea Star Line vessels are configured for both Lo/Lo and Ro/Ro service. In addition to flexibly designed container and trailer space, they feature a garage area that accommodates oversized cargo, and another garage dedicated to automobiles.

Sea Star Line, LLC has entered an agreement to on-hire another barge to add to its current service package for shipments from Jacksonville to Puerto Rico. Sea Star Line Barges to Serve Puerto Rico Trade
Finalizing an agreement to service Puerto Rico trade, Sea Star Line, LLC will lease two barges with combined additional capacity of 800 forty-foot equivalent units (FEUS). The weekly barge service, with a barge departing both San Juan and Jacksonville every Thursday, will commence on January 29, 2015 with a six day transit. The barge is configured to hold dry and refrigerated containers and Sea Star Line has on-hired over 2,100 pieces of equipment to support the additional capacity. Tim Nolan, President of Sea Star Line, said, “The new barge service will compliment Sea Star Line's current two vessel calls per week and ultimately act as a bridge until the first of new Marlin Class vessels are delivered in October of this year."

Sea Star Enlarges Refrigeration Fleet, Preps for LNG Ships
Sea Star Line, LLC said that it has increased its refrigerated container fleet by 25% in the past year to better serve the Puerto Rico trade. Sea Star is also in year two of a five year refrigerated equipment replacement plan. The replacement plan aims to reduce the average age of the entire Sea Star Line refrigerated container fleet to less than three years. Additionally, Sea Star Line recently entered into a five year agreement to acquire new gensets to support the increased reefer fleet. “We must begin transforming our equipment fleet to meet the needs of our customers and in preparation for our new LNG ships entering the Puerto Rico trade at the end of 2015,” said Jim Wagstaff, vice president of operations.
