Wallenius Wilhelmsen's New RoRo Vessel Nabucco Named in Sweden

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has recently celebrated the naming ceremony of the RoRo vessel MV Nabucco at the Port of Gothenburg.The ceremony was live-streamed from Gothenburg, with only a select group attending due to the recent increase in Covid cases. Pandemic Forces Ship Owners to Shelve Scrubber Installs

Ship owners are postponing or canceling the installation of “scrubbers” that extract harmful sulphur emissions from their vessels as the coronavirus pandemic tightens finances.Regulations from United Nations agency the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which took effect in January, were viewed by the oil and shipping industries as one of the first worldwide efforts to enforce environmental change.The rules aimed to make ships use fuel with a sulphur content of 0.5%, compared with 3.5% previously. Operators had the alternative option to install devices - scrubbers - to strip out the pollutant, which causes lung problems among humans and contributes to acidification of oceans and acid rain…

China COSCO to be First through the Expanded Panama Canal

China COSCO Shipping has won the draw for its container vessel Andronikos to make the ceremonial first transit through the Expanded Panama Canal during the waterway’s inauguration on Sunday, June 26. The vessel, which has a maximum capacity of 9,400 TEUs, is 8.25 meters in beam and 299.98 meters in length. The draw took place this morning at the Panama Canal Administration Building, in which a Notary Public served as witness, among invited attendees. Also participating in the draw was the Norwegian/Swedish shipping line Wallenius Wilhemsen Lines (WWL) with its car carrier Thalatta.

American V. Awarded Management Contract

American V. Ships, Mineola, N.Y., has been named the technical manager of three vessels to be chartered to the recently established Wallenius and Wilhemsen joint venture - Wallenius-Wilhemsen Line. American V. will continue to manage the 5,600-unit each Faust and Fidelio, which have been under the company's management since 1989. American V. signed a six-year contract with Automar International Car Carrier to be the technical manager of the U.S. flag vessels, Faust and Fidelio. The company will provide its full range of technical management services including operating, crewing, budget control, purchasing and quality assurance. The three vessels are chartered through September 2005 to American Roll-on Roll-off Carriers, a U.S. subsidiary of Wallenius-Wilhemsen Lines.
