University at Buffalo (UB) researchers are developing a deep-sea Internet: they consider that the technological breakthrough could lead to improvements in tsunami detection, offshore oil and natural gas exploration, surveillance, pollution monitoring and other activities. “A submerged wireless network will give us an unprecedented ability to collect and analyze data from our oceans in real time," said Tommaso Melodia, UB associate professor of electrical engineering and the project’s lead researcher.

EF Johnson Technologies $1m Task Order

Port Security Initiative Enters Phase Two
The Strategic Council on Security Technology announced the global rollout of Phase Two of the Smart and Secure Tradelanes (SST) initiative. In the last year, SST has become the largest cargo security program in operation, helping global shippers to automatically track the location and status of containers while creating a system to detect and report container tampering. The second phase of SST focuses on further expansion of the global network, extending operations, shipments, and integration into existing supply chain systems while incorporating new technologies such as sensor-equipped smart containers into global supply chain systems. USN Deploys Wireless Gateways From 3e Technologies
3e Technologies International Inc. (3eTI announced that the U.S. Navy has deployed its 3e-520N Wireless Gateway on USS HOWARD to improve productivity and operating efficiencies. USS HOWARD (DDG-83), an Arleigh Burke-class Destroyer, has implemented a ship-wide wireless network using forty 3e-520N Wireless Gateways, allowing personnel to use wireless devices to access crucial network resources and conduct video applications.
