MOL Develops Portable Bunker Gauge

World’s First: Reducing Workload and Improving Safety during Bunkering. President: Koichi Muto) today announced that MOL and Musashino Co., Ltd. have jointly developed the world’s first portable liquid-level gauge for vessel fuel tanks, which reduces workload needed to measure a ship’s fuel level during bunkering and enables more accurate measurement. This will reduce the crew’s workload, and help prevent incidents such as fuel spills from overfilling. (1)  Compact main unit (24cm wide x 37cm high x 31cm deep), lightweight (about 4.5kg) / Power source of the main unit is 9V dry cells.

Simrad Yacthing Offers Wireless Networking Solution

B&G Debuts Wireless Pilot Control

B&G, a leader in the manufacture of instruments and marine electronics for sailing, announced today the release of the compact Wireless Pilot Controller. Providing complete control to sailors, no matter where they are on the boat, the new Wireless Pilot Controller is comprised of a small and lightweight waterproof Bluetooth base station with micro-C connections, has pairings for up to four remotes, and is compatible with B&G Triton and H5000 Pilot systems. The Pilot Controller Wireless Remote is perfectly sized to fit into the user’s palm.

PetroCom’s VSAT Sat Services Completely Operational

PetroCom is making great strides in repairing its communication systems that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Patched very small aperture terminal (VSAT) satellite and wireless systems that were quickly operational with ingenuity and resourcefulness are now repaired properly and working near capacity. “My staff has done an unbelievable job of improvising and thinking outside of the box to restore services. Our first goal was to patch communication trunk-lines and make them operational, which allowed us to evaluate the full extent of the damages,” said PetroCom President & COO Ken Wright. PetroCom’s DS3 fiber-optic connection has been repaired in New Orleans and VSAT satellite services are fully operational and capable of running at full capacity.

WFS and Stork Present Subsea Wireless CP Monitoring System

WFS Technologies and Stork Technical Services present Seatooth Smart CP, the world’s first subsea wireless cathodic protection (CP) monitoring system designed for retrofit to existing fields. Seatooth Smart CP monitors the effects of corrosion by measuring anode current wirelessly in “real-time” using a Seatooth S100 device and a wireless enabled ROV. FORAN Upgraded for Improved Shipbuilding Efficiency

The SENER engineering and technology group has upgraded its FORAN System with important new enhancements following its Shipyard 4.0 Digitalization Strategy, which have been incorporated into the System in the latest FORAN Build, launched to the market in October 2017. The industry is demanding more technological capacity and integration, and this new FORAN release incorporates relevant improvements in the different design packages. The surface ship model, managed as a collection of NURBS patches, is now internally represented by a shell in accordance with the new geometrical kernel of FORAN.

USN Deploys Wireless Gateways From 3e Technologies

3e Technologies International Inc. (3eTI announced that the U.S. Navy has deployed its 3e-520N Wireless Gateway on USS HOWARD to improve productivity and operating efficiencies. USS HOWARD (DDG-83), an Arleigh Burke-class Destroyer, has implemented a ship-wide wireless network using forty 3e-520N Wireless Gateways, allowing personnel to use wireless devices to access crucial network resources and conduct video applications. This Gateway is powered by National Semiconductor's (NYSE:NSM) Geode(TM) solution to achieve high performance and expandability. "It is becoming increasingly important, during day-to-day operations, to reach the last 100 ft. onboard ship with key technical resources.

Liebherr: New Manipulator for Offshore Cranes

The Liebherr offshore crane division has produced and delivered a new manipulator tool with a safety working load of 100 tonnes. Using this equipment is designed to extend the task range of the Liebherr offshore cranes. Liebherr designed a manipulator for its ram luffing knuckle boom crane series to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation. The Manipulator 100 is able to be used with either hook or crossbar function. The crossbar mode matches any operation – especially to those under bad weather conditions or to emergency operations.

Globe Wireless Granted Japan License

Globe Wireless Granted Blanket Wireless Radio Station License by the Japanese Ministry of Information and Communications. Globe Wireless, a  leading provider of communications, operational and IT solutions to the maritime industry, today announced it has been granted a Blanket Wireless Radio Station License by the Japanese Ministry of Information and Communications. Globe Wireless Distributes Satlink FleetBroadband

Globe Wireless and Satlink announced the signing of a Marketing and Distribution Agreement which appoints Globe Wireless as a distributor of Satlink’s Inmarsat FleetBroadband 150 and 250 equipment. Globe Wireless has also made an initial substantial order of FleetBroadband units. The Large Modifiable Underwater Mothership (MUM) brings German engineering prowess and cooperation to the fore. As the world of autonomous vehicles flourishes on land and in the air, subsea applications have proven more challenging, despite great strides in recent years to deliver fully autonomous, efficient systems at sea. 3e Technologies Awarded $1.1m Navy Contract

EFJ, Inc., said that its 3e Technologies International (3eTI) subsidiary has received a contract for $1.1 million to develop a wireless, spectrum management system for a U.S. Navy customer. 3eTI will be providing a solution to improve wireless network performance by using spectrum data and wireless activity to dynamically optimize wireless network implementation.

“K” Line Selects Globe Wireless for Upgrade

Globe Wireless has been selected by “K” Line to provide a turnkey implementation of the Inmarsat FleetBroadband service. “K” Line is a large ship owner/operators, which includes container ships, car carriers, bulk carriers, gas carriers and tankers. The signed agreement between “K” Line and Globe Wireless entails the up gradation of its service in the vessels presently using the Globe Wireless network. Globe Wireless currently provides voice & data solutions to “K” Line. The roll out of FleetBroadband on the “K” Line ships has already begun.
