Seacor Power Bow Section Raised
Salvors have raised the bow section of the liftboat Seacor Power, which overturned in heavy seas in the Gulf of Mexico in April.The Donjon-SMIT salvage team lifted the bow section to the surface of the water and transported it by barge on Saturday to the Modern American Recycling Services, Inc. (M.A.R.S.) facility in Houma, La.Meanwhile, salvage work continues at the wreck site, where crews recently conducted more acoustic surveys of the stern and accommodation sections. The updated surveys will be used to complete the rigging configuration to prepare the stern section for removal.
Marine Robots Survey D-Day Rehearsal Wreckage
Mission commemorates 70th anniversary of World War II Tragedy. A mission off the coast of South Devon, England has surveyed two U.S. Landing Ship Tanks (LSTs) that were torpedoed and sunk during the D-Day rehearsal Exercise Tiger on April 28, 1944. Using state-of-the-art autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) technology to collect data from the wreckage site, the mission has produced the first high-definition sonar images of this World War II tragedy. This was the first time in history that an AUV had surveyed the area. The mission, which was executed by Hydroid, Inc., a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime and the leading manufacturer of AUVs, with additional data provided by the Royal Navy's Maritime Autonomous System Trials Team (MASTT), commemorates the 70th anniversary of Exercise Tiger.
Transocean: No Oil Leaking From Sunken Rig or Riser
A two-day underwater examination conducted by Transocean (NYSE: RIG) (SIX: RIGN) and the US Coast Guard (USCG) on October 4th and 5th confirmed that there are no hydrocarbons leaking from of the sunken Deepwater Horizon or the riser, the pipe that linked the rig to the well head before the Macondo accident last year, Transocean reported. The inspection, conducted with the use of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV), also failed to find any "sheen" or oil in the area. Transocean, in cooperation with the USCG, undertook the inspection after a "sheen" was reported on the water in the vicinity of the sealed Macondo well and the USCG issued a notice to the company.
