IYC Names its Brokers of the Year

Denison Yacht Sales Adds to its Team of Brokers

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Marina Del Ray, Calif. - Denison Yacht Sales, a full-service global yacht brokerage and yacht charter firm, recently hired eight new yacht brokers and a charter fleet manager. The new hires will expand the company's presence at its Florida and California offices. Joining the Fort Lauderdale brokerage are Skip Denison, Juan Pasch, Peter Quintal, and Gene Echols. Pasch will specifically be assisting in the sale of new Beneteau G.T.'s. New brokers to the California location include Dave Millett, Rick Peters, John Zagorski and Ed Gillespie.

HMY Yacht Sales Names New Brokers

HMY Yacht Sales proudly welcomes three new brokers to their firm. Don Millroy joins the Dania Beach office and is a veteran Coast Guard officer, airline pilot and yacht broker. The Jensen Beach office added Jon McConnell who credits his youth, spent in the popular fishing grounds of Palm Beach, with nurturing his attraction to saltwater fishing. Jon worked at Rybovich Boat Yard and as a captain on a variety of sportfishing vessels before settling into sales. His extensive experience allows him to match boats with people and answer difficult questions with ease. Claude Strickland also joined the Dania Beach office, bringing a background of fishing and scuba diving along.

Altmann Joins Knight & Carver

Walter Altmann, who brings more than 15 years of yachting industry experience in a variety of roles, has been hired by Knight & Carver YachtCenter as its on-staff naval architect and designer. Altmann spent the past two years with Hatteras Yachts in North Carolina, where he was in charge of new-product design. According to Sampson A. Brown, President/CEO of Knight & Carver, the addition of Altmann gives the boat-building and repair company its first full-time staff architect/designer in many years. Altmann has served as a naval architect, marine engineer and yacht broker. Prior to joining Hatteras, he spent three years at Cabo Yachts in Adelanto, CA, where he coordinated conceptual design for Cabo’s new models.

Damen Yacht Support Vessel Game Changer Sold

Dutch shipyard Damen has confirmed the successful sale of its 70-meter support vessel, Game Changer. The yacht will now return to Gorinchem in the Netherlands for further customisation. Game Changer  is Damen's fourth Yacht Support vessel sold in the 70-metre segment, proving the ongoing demand for large yachting solutions for worldwide adventures, helicopter and dive operations. Damen has a total of 12 Damen Yacht Support vessels delivered or in build. The next available Yacht Support vessel is a 55-metre YS 5009 Adventure, which will be delivered before the summer this year.

Shipowners’ Club Launches Simplified, All Risk Policy for Yachts

It was auspicious timing for ISA as the day marked its 12th anniversary. Burger Boat Company, celebrating its 150th anniversary, announce the appointment of Thom Conboy as its Commercial Director. As Commercial Director, Thom will be working closely with the shipyard in Manitowoc, WI to secure new construction, refit and repair projects as well as heading its yacht brokerage and charter division at Burger Yacht Sales. Thom's yachting career spans over 30 years. He is an avid sailor and held positions as captain, project manager, yacht builder, shipyard owner and superyacht broker.

Palumbo Buys Mondomarine

Italian yard Palumbo Group has acquired the former Mondomarine facility in Savona on an initial six-month lease, reports local media. "By leasing the business unit of the Savona shipyard, Palumbo Group will grant the restart of the shipyard's activities, along with the immediate reinstatement of nine employees." Palumbo Group explained in a statement. The deal saves 9 jobs from the Italian shipyard that went into liquidation towards the end of 2017, which put a total of 57 jobs at risk.

Baltic Exchange to Develop LNG Freight Index

The Baltic Exchange is looking into launching a freight index for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is working with leading ship brokers to explore potential shipping routes that might be used as the LNG market grows, the company said on Thursday. Founded in 1744 as a forum for chartering vessels, the Baltic Exchange now produces benchmark indexes for global shipping rates, including ones used by the multi-billion dollar freight derivatives market. Singapore Exchange acquired the exchange in 2016 and since then the Baltic has been looking for new markets to develop.

MV Werften Cuts First Steel for Crystal Endeavor

Shipbuilder MV Werften said it has begun building Crystal’s new luxury expedition yacht, Crystal Endeavor, with first steel cut on January 15 at its shipyard in Stralsun, Germany. Set to debut in 2020, Crystal Endeavor will be Crystal’s largest and most spacious purpose-built Polar Class ship featuring all-suite, butler-serviced accommodations, and adventure in polar regions and other remote destinations.
