Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has ordered five 15,500 TEU LNG dual fuel container ships from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.The new vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2026. They will be equipped with a high-pressure LNG dual fuel main engine. In addition, they will feature a ballast water treatment system, an advanced integrated system for navigational information and operation monitoring and a broadband maritime satellite system.These technologies are integral for collecting navigational big data and enhancing the safety of the vessels, says Yang Ming.

Deficiencies in the cargo stowage arrangement ultimately caused the YM Efficiency to lose 81 containers while sailing in heavy seas off Australia in June 2018, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau's (ATSB) investigation revealed.The Liberian-flagged vessel was en route from Taiwan to Sydney when it suddenly rolled heavily in strong gale force winds and rough seas, causing the ship to lose 81 containers overboard and another 62 containers to be damaged. Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation takes a hit with a net loss of about USD 42 million for the third quarter and sees signs of "weaker demand" in the container market.Yang Ming said that according to analyst firm Alphaliner’s latest projections, annual capacity growth is forecast at 3.7% and global throughput growth for 2019 is estimated at only 2.5%, which suggests a softer market demand than was previously expected.Meanwhile, the container shipping market remains vulnerable to trade uncertainties and geopolitical tensions. Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation reported a consolidated revenues of about  NTD 40.4 billion (USD 1.3 billion) for the second quarter of 2019, up 20.24% compared to the same period of prior year.Business volumes increased by 5% year-on-year to 1.35 million TEUs. Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation announced a new Intra-Asia service KVM(Korea–Vietnam–Malaysia Service) jointly operated by YM and APL Co. Pte Ltd through its CNC brand with effect on February 21st, 2019.The service will be operated with three 1,800-TEU container vessels, one by YM and two by APL Co. Taiwanese global shipping and logistics services company Yang Ming Marine Transportation Corp. it had a net loss of $218.5 million in 2018, with operating results significantly impacted by higher fuel prices.According to a stock exchange annoucement from the ocean shipping company based in Keelung, its consolidated revenues of 2018 totaled NTD 141.83 billion (USD 4.70 billion), up 8.21 % compared with NTD 131.08 billion (USD 4.35 billion) in revenue from previous year.Volumes in 2018 increased to 5,232 thousand TEUs, up 11% year over year, it said.Yang Ming’s 2018 operating results have been significantly impacted by higher global bunker fuel prices, which increased by 31.17% compared with the previous year.

Taiwanese shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp said that it's containership YM Excellence while sailing from Shekou, China, to Singapore successfully rescued two Australians who were spotted fleeing out of a flaming yacht.After the completion of the rescue operation, the two persons have already returned home in Australia safely.Recalling the experience, Captain Lee Chien-Sheng revealed the crew spotted black smoke billowing out the yacht, and soon it burst into flames. The crew on YM Excellence tried to contact the yacht but in vain; then they found a small boat with two persons managed to escape from the burning yacht.YM Excellence diverted and approached the boat immediately, rescued the two persons and brought them on board.
