America’s largest military shipbuilding company Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced on Tuesday that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has been awarded a contract with a potential total value of $724 million for planning yard services in support of in-service amphibious ships.Planning yard services provided will be in support of amphibious transport dock (LPD 17), assault (LHD 1 and LHA 6), command (LCC 19), and dock landing (LSD 41/49) classes of ships, HII said. Three Cuban-flagged tankers that are under U.S. sanctions for transporting Venezuelan oil to the Communist-run island have been serviced in the port of Veracruz on Mexico's Gulf coast, according to vessel tracking data and industry sources.The maintenance work on the vessels—one of which was serviced as recently as this month—is a potential breach of sanctions on Venezuela, two lawyers who specialize in U.S. sanctions said.However, the United States has in the past not brought enforcement actions against shipyards for doing work on blacklisted vessels from those countries, according to U.S. Treasury Department data.Under U.S. law, companies and individuals are prohibited from materially assisting sanctioned entities.

General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a $346.5 million contract modification by the U.S. Navy to provide research and development and lead-yard services for Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).Under the contract modification, Electric Boat will undertake development studies and other work related to Virginia-class submarine design improvements. Additionally, Electric Boat will perform research and development work required to evaluate new technologies to be inserted in newly built Virginia-class ships, including the Virginia Payload Module.Initially awarded in 2016, the contract has a potential value of $1.3 billion through September 2019.

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Ingalls Shipbuilding division received a $27 million cost-plus-award fee contract from the U.S. Navy today for follow yard services in the Navy’s USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) program. The contract, which provides liaison and technical support, engineering, design and configuration management, systems engineering, turn-key management and crew indoctrination, includes four option years with a total potential contract value of $181.4 million if all options are exercised. “This contract highlights our shipyard’s versatility in handling all aspects of shipbuilding for the Navy,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias.

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $126 million contract extension to manage ongoing post-delivery modernization activities for Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) destroyers. The contract extension runs through December, 2017, with options for an additional six months. Bath Iron Works provides Planning Yard services for all Littoral Combat Ships and Arleigh Burke-class destroyers including engineering, design, material kitting, logistics, planning and execution. The company is currently supporting 68 ships, representing about 75 percent of the nation’s surface combatants.

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, is being awarded a $125,950,046 cost-plus-award-fee modification to a previously awarded contract (N00024-12-C-4311) for the continuation of integrated planning yard services for Arleigh Burke-class and Oliver Hazard Perry-class ships. Bath Iron Works will provide expert design, planning, and material support services for both maintenance and modernization and will prevent any lapse in programmatic coverage. Work will be performed in Bath, Maine and is expected to complete by December 2017. Fiscal 2017 operations and maintenance (Navy) funding in the amount of $945 will be obligated at time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

This contract extends the services for engineering, technical support, special studies and Flight III design work for Arleigh Burke-class ships through December 2017. The Flight III upgrades include a more powerful missile defense radar, increased shipboard power production and hull enhancements. More than 200 highly skilled engineers, designers and planners work on this contract. Since 1987, Bath Iron Works has provided design and technical assistance for design upgrades and major changes for DDG 51-class destroyers.

US-based General Dynamics subsidiary Electric Boat won a contract for more than $300 million to maintain design and engineering specifications for Virginia Class submarines, the US Department of Defense said in a press release. "Electric Boat has secured a one-year, $300.6 million contract to provide lead yard services and support development studies and design efforts for the U.S. Navy‘s Virginia-class submarines," says the release. The Defense Department said that Electric Boat Corp. will help the military branch maintain and update the design and related drawings and data of each submarine under the Virginia class throughout the construction process and post-shakedown availability period.

General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded an $18.9 million contract modification for the continued development of the Virginia Payload Module (VPM). The funds will be used to procure two VPM pre-production setups to support the manufacturing start of the VPM payload tubes. The VPM will comprise four large-diameter payload tubes in a new hull section to be inserted in Virginia-class submarines. This modification brings the cumulative value of the overall Virginia-class Lead Yard Services contract, initially awarded in 2010, to $1.46 billion.

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works is a business unit of General Dynamics. Bath Iron Works, as the LCS Planning Yard, will provide maintenance and modernization support for all Navy LCS 1 and LCS 2 variant ships.Work to be performed under this contract includes availability advanced planning, ship alteration design and logistics support, material support, ship planned maintenance, class services, onboard maintenance, and planning of all maintenance availabilities in the U.S. and abroad. Bath Iron Works is also the planning yard for the DDG 51 and FFG 7 ship classes.

ASRY (Arabian Shipbuilding & Repair Yard) says it is expanding its already extensive range of in-yard services in Bahrain by signing an important Service Agreement with Solas Marine Services Group. The Agreement will allow Solas to build a 2,000-square-metre Service Centre for Life Boats, Life Rafts and Fire Fighting & Life Saving Appliances in ASRY. This is the first development in an initiative to increase ASRY’s technical resources, which will continue to roll out in 2014.
