Sakashita Takes the Helm at ClassNK

Hiroaki Sakashita has been appointed as President & CEO as well as a Representative Director of classification society ClassNK,

Hiroaki Sakashita has been appointed as President & CEO as well as a Representative Director of classification society ClassNK, effective March 18, 2020. Current Senior Executive Vice Presidents Tetsuya Kinoshita, Junichiro Iida, and Dr. Toshiyuki Shigemi will continue in their present roles on the team, joined by Hirofumi Takano and Taira Narisawa as Executive Vice President.Koichi Fujiwara has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors, leaving the post of Representative Director, President & CEO.

ClassNK Names Sakashita Senior EVP

Effective March 12, 2019, Mr. Hiroaki Sakashita has been appointed as Senior Executive Vice President as well as Executive Director of ClassNK.Sakashita began his career at Japan’s Ministry of Transport (now Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) in 1980. During his period at the government he has played vital roles in maritime administration including regulatory oversight and industry development. MOL Readies for ICT-based Trends in Advanced Digitalization

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a technology consulting agreement with  Yokohama National University Professor Tomoharu Naga, a creator of the next-generation AI advanced machine learning and the percolative learning method.A press release from the maritime company said that MOL aims to become a "corporate group of competitive No.1 businesses," under the "Vision for the MOL Group 10 years from now" set out in the "Rolling Plan 2018" management plan by enhancing its services through the use and application of ICT.The MOL Group has worked with Professor Nagao since 2016 to forecast the dry bulk market by analyzing data related to economic issues and maritime affairs.

Jt Study by MOL, Yokohama University for Improving Ocean Shipping Market Forecast

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced that the company and its subsidiary MOL Information Systems, Ltd. have signed a contract with Yokohama National University to conduct a joint study on the analysis and use of big data related to ocean shipping. The joint study is aimed at developing the capability to analyze data related to economics and maritime affairs and forecast the ocean shipping market and bunker prices with greater accuracy by using artificial intelligence (AI) in cooperation with Professor Tomoharu Nagao of the university’s Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences. The partners will also proceed with new studies to develop management support tools.

ST Engineering Appoints Seng as Director

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) today announced the appointment of Mr Lim Sim Seng as an independent non-executive Director of the Company with effect from 15 May 2015. Mr Lim, 56, is currently the Country Head, DBS Singapore and Chairman of DBS Vickers Securities Holdings Pte Ltd.  He was a senior banker for 26 years with Citibank before joining DBS in 2010 as Country Head, DBS Singapore. With Citigroup/Citibank, Mr Lim served Citigroup in various senior appointments in Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, New York, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Hong Kong. He was a Japanese Government Monbusho scholar and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Yokohama National University, Japan.

MOL Names New Trade Management EVP/COO

Tsuyoshi Yoshida has been appointed as the new executive vice president and CEO of Trade Management for MOL (America) Inc. Yoshida will have responsibility for pricing, security, business and network planning, as well as trade administration. He will also sit on MOL America's Board of Directors. A 25-year company veteran, Yoshida has extensive experience through positions held in MOL’s sales, marketing, pricing, operations, network planning and trade management organizations in Tokyo and Europe. Most recently, he was the General Manager of the Strategic Planning & Asset Group in Tokyo. Yoshida is a graduate of Yokohama National University with a baccalaureate degree in Business Management.
