Sanmar Delivers New Tug to Abu Dhabi Ports

Turkish shipbuilder Sanmar Shipyards said it has delivered Al JIMI 1 (Yenicay VII), the latest addition to Abu Dhabi Ports’ growing tug fleet, which already includes two sister vessels, Al SHAHEED (Yenicay IV) and AlHILI 1 (Yenicay VI), which were delivered by Sanmar in 2017. The Yenicay Class tugs are based on the Robert Allan Ltd Rascal 1800 basic design and are equipped to service both Musaffah Port and Zayed Port and complement Abu Dhabi Ports’ existing fleet. Management of these tugs falls under Abu Dhabi Ports’ Marine Services arm– SAFEEN.

Two New Tugs for Abu Dhabi Ports

Abu Dhabi Port Company (ADPC) has purchased two newly built tugs from Sanmar shipyards of Turkey. The new Yenicay Class tugs, based on the same Robert Allan Ltd Rascal 1800 basic design-which are equipped with the latest technology and have a bollard pull power of 30 metric tons, will service both Mussafah Port and Zayed Port and complement Abu Dhabi Port’s existing advanced fleet. Abu Dhabi Ship Building Adds New Dry Dock

Abu Dhabi Ship Building PJSC (ADSB) held a ceremony to inaugurate its new floating dry dock at its location in Zayed Port. The floating dock, which began servicing vessels in July 2016, has greatly enhanced ADSB’s commercial service offering, allowing the company to service larger ships and tap into new customers in industries such as oil and gas, the company said. Abu Dhabi Ports and Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) have signed a long term contract that when fully realized will see a fully operational ship repair facility that will also include a floating dock capability within Zayed Port. Agthia Signs 25-year Lease in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Ports and Agthia Group PJSC have signed a lease agreement aimed at expanding the group’s existing Grand Mills Flour and Animal Feed facilities at Zayed Port. The new agreement was signed by Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Ports and Iqbal Hamzah, Chief Executive Officer of Agthia Group at Abu Dhabi Ports headquarters. The contract between the two parties incorporates a 25-year agreement for a 85,700m2 plot of land, which when fully developed by Agthia will include dedicated bulk grain silos, logistics warehousing and onsite bagging facilities.

Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal Posts Record Year

Abu Dhabi Port 2015 Box Traffic Up Sharply

Container volumes rose by 32 percent at Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Port in 2015 buoyed by industrial and infrastructure development in the emirate, operator Abu Dhabi Ports said on Wednesday. Built on a man-made island, Khalifa Port handled 1.50 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers), up from 1.13 million a year earlier, it said in a statement. Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, is investing billions in industry, infrastructure and tourism as it diversifies its economy away from oil. "Imports and exports due to the huge infrastructure and industrial projects contributed to the growth in container volumes," said Mohamed Juma al Shamisi, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Ports. Improved shipyard and terminal facilities and services also helped, he said.

Abu Dhabi Ports and Gulf Marine Services Announce New Partnership

Abu Dhabi Ports – the master developer, operator and manager of ports and Khalifa Industrial Zone in the Emirate ― has signed a contract with Gulf Marine Services (GMS) that will see the creation of a state-of-the-art facility at Zayed Port where GMS will construct and maintain its offshore support vessels that serve the region’s oil and gas industry. Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi city―a regional hub for the cruise industry, and general and bulk cargo―will lease the new facility to GMS for three years. GMS, founded in Abu Dhabi in 1977 and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2014, is the largest operator of self-propelled self-elevating support vessels (SESVs), also known as jackup barges, in the world.

First Cruise Ships Dock at Abu Dhabi’s New Stopover

Abu Dhabi Ports Sees Cargo Volumes Rise

Abu Dhabi Ports―the master developer, operator and manager of ports and industrial zones in the emirate―said it handled 19 percent more general and bulk cargo in the first nine months of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014. The volumes increased to 11.28 million metric tons in the first three quarters of 2015 from 9.49 million metric tons in the same period last year. This was announced at the first Annual Breakbulk Middle East Conference & Exhibition being hosted by Abu Dhabi Ports at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from October 25 to 28, 2015.

Abu Dhabi Ports Welcomes New Cruise Season

As Abu Dhabi's new Zayed Port cruise terminal opens by the end of this year, the number of cruise ships docking in Abu Dhabi is set to increase by a fifth this season, reports the National. Zayed Port,  a premier cruise hub in the region, is expected to welcome 112 cruise ship calls in the new season spanning from mid-September this year to mid- May 2016. The figure is 19 per cent higher than the 94 cruise ship calls in the 2014-2015 season. The ships will bring a total of 205,000 passengers to the capital between September and May, up from 185,000 who flocked through the gates of Port Zayed last season. Khalifa Port Container Volume Up 41pct

At the Khalifa Port Container Terminal, which is operated by Abu Dhabi Terminals, container volumes increased by 41 per cent in the first seven months in 2015 over the same period in 2014. ADP Deploys New Terminal Operating System at Zayed Port

Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP), the master developer, operator and manager of ports and industrial zones in the emirate, has successfully implemented Jade’s terminal operating system, Master Terminal, at Zayed Port. It went live with its new terminal operating software on July 1, at the Zayed Port, the first of seven ports scheduled to upgrade its legacy system to Jade Master Terminal – an important regional hub for general cargo and home to the emirate’s growing cruise industry, said a statement. The new terminal operating system will next be implemented at Khalifa Ports’ general cargo and RORO terminals as of August 1, and thereafter across the remainder of Abu Dhabi Ports, it said.

Khalifa Port Ready for Growing RoRo Volumes

Abu Dhabi Ports informs it has enhanced moved all of Abu Dhabi’s roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) cargo to the new Khalifa Port RORO hub. In 2014, for the first time ever, Abu Dhabi handled more than 100,000 units in a single year, recording an all-time high of 106,071 units. The RoRo volumes grew by 18.8% compared to 2013. “Over recent years, Abu Dhabi’s RoRo business has increased significantly; today it forms an important element of the Emirate’s strategic vision to diversify the economy,” said Capt. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports.

New Cruise Terminal at Abu Dhabi’s Port

The new cruise terminal at Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi, which will be capable of handling 2,500 passengers and three ships simultaneously, is set to become operational by the end of the year, according to a report in the National. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, the chief executive of Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) said that work was progressing in full swing and his company was aiming for an end-of-2015 finish to coincide with home porting plans of Royal Caribbean to base one of its Celebrity Cruise vessels at Zayed Port for the 2016-17 season. The ports developer is in talks with cruise lines to use Zayed Port as their home base for the next cruise season. The next cruise season will also involve a stopover at Sir Bani Yas Island.

Abu Dhabi Ports Shift Far More Breakbulk Cargo

Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ABPC) says that general cargo moving through Abu Dhabi’s commercial Ports has increased by 37% this year. ADPC’s commercial ports (Musaffah, Khalifa and Zayed Ports) have handled 6.4 million FT (freight tonnes) of general cargo, compared to 4.7 million FT in the first half of 2014, which is an increase of 1.74 million FT (freight tonnes) compared with the same period in 2013. “These figures show a strong first half of 2014 and indicate a promising six months ahead”, said Capt. New Cruise Terminal Design for Abu Dhabi

The concept design of Abu Dhabi’s planned permanent cruise passenger terminal is to be unveiled later this month at European cruise event, Seatrade Med 2014, from September 16-18 in Barcelona. The model is being showcased by Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) following an international design competition and extensive industry stakeholder input. An important element of the competition was the commitment to hire two leading Emirati architectural graduates, to join the project team for the development of the architectural design.

Express Global Logistics Pvt Ltd., performed another outstanding job by ship chartering, safe and timely loading, survey and Ocean Transportation of 130 Mt x 1 cable Reel on M.V. ABIS DUSAVIK from Newcastle Port U.K to Mina Zayed Port, Abu Dhabi. The vessel commendably stowed a 541 CBM on lower hold/under deck. The reel weighted up to 130 MT & measurements of up to 9.40 X 6.128 X 9.40 (Mtrs). It is destined for Oil and Gas Project in the Abu Dhabi. Last December, EXG had carried 2 Reels 284 MT each & measurements of up to 9.38 X 5.91 X 9.20 (Mtrs). They were destined for 3 Well Head Platform Project in the Abu Dhabi. Like last time,the said movement was also absolutely critical and time bound.

Zayed Port Operation New Year Changeover Planned

The concession for the management and operations at Zayed Port will be returned from Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) to the port authority, Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) on 31, December 2013. The port informs that the concession is being returned to ADPC in line with the original planning for port capacity for the emirate of Abu Dhab which was outlined when ADPC was established. They explain that ADT and ADPC have a long established close working partnership and have assembled a dedicated specialist team to manage the handover.

First RoRo Ship Calls at Khalifa Port

The first scheduled Roll-On/Roll-Off (RoRo) vessel, MV Dream Angel, berthed at the Khalifa Port RoRo terminal on Monday, January 5, heralding the transition of Abu Dhabi Ports’ RoRo cargo, from Zayed Port to Khalifa Port. Operated by Nissan Motor Car Carrier (NMCC), the MV Dream Angel arrived from the Port of Yokohama and Port of Kanda in Japan laden with 164 car units for Abu Dhabi Ports’ key customer Al Masaood Automobiles, one of the region’s main distributors for Nissan and Infiniti. The new vehicles will next be sent to car dealers across the UAE.

Abu Dhabi Ports Invests in Management Software

Abu Dhabi Ports is implementing a brand new terminal operating system (TOS) which will enhance the general cargo operations at the emirate’s ports, significantly improving processing times and the full range of customer service offerings. The state-of-the-art port management software called “Master Terminal” will replace Abu Dhabi Ports’ existing systems and support the management of all aspects of the general cargo operations, including bulk, break bulk, project and Roll-On/Roll-Off (RORO) cargo. It will provide real-time information about cargo flows at any time of the day and improve the utilisation of Port facilities, while increasing the visibility and productivity with regards to operations, planning and reporting procedures.

Abu Dhabi Port Celebrates Record Year for Cargo

Abu Dhabi Ports, which manages nine commercial, logistics, community and leisure ports in the UAE capital and Khalifa Port, celebrated a record year for cargo containers with a 26 per cent growth in 2014 over the previous year. Khalifa Port, built on a man-made island, handled 1.13 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers) in 2014, representing growth of 26 percent, Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT). The new Khalifa port began operations in late 2012 to take over container traffic from the existing Mina Zayed Port. “2014 had been the busiest year at Khalifa Port Container Terminal and the fifth straight year that our compound year-on-year growth has risen more than 20 per cent,” Martijn van de Linde, ADT’s Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement.
