Coastal Passenger Ferry for China

The Zhoushan Islands are just off shore of east China's Zhejiang province, and lie south of Shanghai on Hangzhou Bay. The main island is home to a naval base, shipyards and a port. It is a busy island with a well-developed ferry system carrying both people and vehicles back and forth to the mainland. A fine new 690-passenger ferry, Zhoushan Islands Prosperity, has recently been added to this fleet of vessels. Death Toll Mounts as Lekima Roils Eastern China

BEIJING, Aug 12 (Reuters) - The death toll from typhoon Lekima in eastern China rose to 44 people on Monday morning, according to official data, as the storm continued up the coast, racking up billions of dollars in economic losses and widely disrupting travel.An additional 12 people were recorded dead from the storm, including seven from Zhejiang province and five from Shandong, with 16 people missing, according to data from provincial emergency bureaus and state media.State broadcaster CCTV had put the death toll at 32 on Sunday.Typhoon Lekima made landfall early on Saturday in China's Zhejiang province, with winds gusting up to 187 kmh (116 mph).

Tsuneishi Bags Order for 10 Bulkers

Japanese shipping company Nissen Kaiun has ordered ten Handysize bulkers from compatriot shipbuilder Tsuneishi Group.Though official sources maintained that Tsuneishi Shipbuilding receives order for several units from a shipowner in Japan for the newly developed 42,000-metric-ton log and bulk carrier TESS42 without revealing the name and numbers, some media-outlets report that the order was for ten bulkers and name of the buyer is Nissen Kaiun.According to Asiasis, the contract has a total value of about $250 million. Sinopec, Zhejiang to Build LNG Terminal in China

LNG Imports Climb at CNOOC's Zhejiang Terminal

CNOOC's Zhejiang terminal will receive 5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas in 2018 up from 3.58 million tonnes last year, CNOOC Gas and Power Co said on Thursday.The Zhejiang terminal located in Ningbo in Zhejiang province has unloaded 33 LNG tankers as of June, or 2.3 million tonnes, up 94 percent from the same period last year, CNOOC Gas and Power said.Storage tanks linked to the terminal are nearly full, CNOOC said.The terminal is a supply hub of LNG for Zhejiang province in eastern China where gas consumption is surging as households switch to gas for winter heating.(Reporting by Men

Tanker Continues to Burn in East China Sea

Strong winds, high waves and toxic gases are hindering dozens of rescue boats struggling to locate missing sailors from a stricken oil tanker in the East China Sea and to extinguish a fire that has burned for the past three days on the ship. The poor conditions, with rain and waves as high as 3 metres (10 feet), frustrated efforts to tame the fire and search for the 31 remaining tanker crew members, China's Ministry of Transport said in a statement on Tuesday. The flames were forcing the South Korean Coast Guard's search and rescue team to stay as far as 3 miles (4.8 km) away from the tanker, two South Korean officials told Reuters.

China's Ningbo-Zhoushan Becomes World's Top Port

China's super-large port Ningbo-Zhoushan, the busiest port in China, saw an annual cargo throughput of 1 billion tonnes, becoming the first one  globally to reach this volume, according to data provided by the port. The port in East China's Zhejiang province deepened cooperation with major shipping companies and harbors along the Belt and Road, adding five sea routes to raise its total to 86. It also signed cooperation agreements with 20 other ports, Xinhua reported Mao Jianhong, chairman of Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group as saying. Ningbo-Zhoushan port handled over 10 million standard containers from countries and regions along the Belt and Road this year, up 16 percent year on year, he added.

China Activates Four Lighthouses in South China Sea

Four out of five lighthouses planned for use in the South China Sea have been activated  to boost navigation and the fifth lighthouse will be completed and put into use soon. China started to build lighthouses in the South China Sea in May last year, with four now in use on Huayang, Chigua, Zhubi and Yongshu reefs. Primeline Turns Against CNOOC

Primeline Energy Holdings Inc. announces that it has sent a letter to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and CNOOC China Limited (CCL) (together CNOOC Group) giving formal notice of its intention to commence arbitration proceedings against CNOOC Group under the provisions of the Petroleum Contract for Block 25/34. The CNOOC Arbitration relates to Primeline’s continuing disputes with CNOOC Group with regard to the development, production and sales of gas from the LS36-1 Gas Field (LS36-1). Primeline has appointed an arbitrator and will file the formal Notice of Arbitration in accordance with the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 1976 and the arbitration agreement under the Petroleum Contract for Block 25/34.

Typhoon Glances off E. China Coast

China's eastern coast took less of a battering than feared after Super Typhoon Chan-hom changed course and lost much of its strength shortly after making landfall near Shanghai late on Saturday. Chan-hom, which Chinese government meteorologists feared would be the powerful typhoon to hit China in decades, packed winds of 162 kph (101 mph) as it landed on the coast of Zhejiang Province but soon veered back to sea and toward the Korean peninsula. Meteorological agencies in China, South Korea and Japan downgraded Chan-hom to a tropical storm on Sunday, warning it would continue to lash surrounding coastal areas with heavy rainfall and gales as it moved across the Yellow Sea. No casualties had been reported by midday Sunday, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Tsuneishi Seeks Foothold in Indonesian Shipyard Business

Japanese shipbuilding and maritime transport company Tsuneishi Holdings  has expressed a commitment to invest up to $40 million to open ship repair services in Indonesia, reports The Jakarta Globe. The Hiroshima Prefecture-based company plans to invest US$40 million in a ship repair project in Indonesia, chief of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani said. Sino-Global to Acquire Tanker

Sino-Global Shipping America, Ltd. a shipping agency, logistics and ship management services company, today announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (the "MOU"), between the Company and Rong Yao International Shipping Limited, a Hong Kong corporation (the "Vessel Seller") pursuant to which the Company has agreed to acquire a small oil/chemical tanker (the "Vessel") from the Vessel Seller. China, Japan Hold Third Maritime Talks

China's Foreign Ministry confirmed the third round of high-level consultations on maritime affairs between China and Japan, China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Wednesday. The talks, held between officials from both countries' foreign ministries, defense ministries and other maritime affairs departments, are being held in Japan and will last three days. The talks are set in Yokohama. Hua said the high-level talks are a comprehensive way to coordinate and communicate between the two countries' maritime affairs departments. The China-Japan high-level consultations on maritime affairs were set up in January 2012 with the first round of talks held in May of the same year in Hangzhou, capital city of east China's Zhejiang Province.

MOL Bulk Carrier Arrested in Shanghai

A maritime court in Shanghai has ordered the detention of a Japanese ship having ordered the ship's owner to pay delayed rent and losses to a Chinese firm deting from as long ago as 2007, according to Xinhua. The ship, named BAOSTEEL EMOTION and owned by Japanese shipping firm Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), was detained at a port in east China's Zhejiang Province. The court ruled on Dec. 7, 2007 that MOL should compensate the Chinese firm 2.9 billion Japanese Yen (28.4 million U.S. dollars), including delayed rent and operating losses.

East China Sea Storm: Two Ships Sink, 26 Missing

Altogether 26 people are missing after two ships sank in separate incidents off the coast of east China's Shandong Province, reports Xinhua. Strong gales were forecast off Shandong, when twelve people were confirmed missing after the ship "XINGLONGZHOU65", registered in east China's Zhejiang Province, sank off Yantai City report Xinhua citing the Yantai Maritime Bureau. China PLA Hospital Ship Sails for Philippines Disaster Support

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's hospital ship, the 'Peace Ark', has set sail for a typhoon relief mission to the Philippines, reports Xinhua. The 300-bed ship with eight operating rooms sounded its horn as it set off from a navy port on Zhoushan island in east China's Zhejiang Province, and is expected to take three days to reach the devastated Samar Province in the Philippines. The medical team will conduct first aid and outpatient treatment and perform surgery and epidemic prevention.

Wison Begins Building New Fabrication Yard

Wison Offshore & Marine Ltd. (Wison Offshore & Marine) announced today the commencement of the construction of key modularized components for the Petroleos De Venezuela, S.A.(PDVSA) RPLC refinery project at Wison Offshore & Marine’s Zhoushan Fabrication Yard (The Zhoushan Yard). This project marks the first construction project at Wison Offshore & Marine’s Zhoushan yard, and the official operational launch of the first phase of the yard. The yard is located on Xiushan Island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province and covers an area of 1.5 million square meters with a coastline of 2,300 meters. Construction on the second phase of the yard is ongoing, and is scheduled to be fully complete and operational in 2015.
