China Shipyard Delivers First Self-designed Offshore Support Vessel

Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group delivered its first self-designed, and the world’s most advanced small AHTS offshore support vessel (OSV) a SPA 80 Diesel Electric DPII 80 mt AHTS from its subsidiary shipyard Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co. The SPA 80 was designed by SDA, a design company of SINOPACIFIC. It is a small, high-tech AHTS. Compared with the same type of AHTS designed by foreign design companies, the SPA 80 has not only absorbed their advantages, but also added many design and technical features including: safety, reliability, maneuverability, operational efficiency, and environmental friendliness. Chinese Shipbuilding: New Bourbon 300 Series Debuts

Bourbon maintained its steady march forward to offshore dominance with a unique naming ceremony in China, which included the naming of Bourbon Liberty 254, the last of 54 vessel to be delivered of the Bourbon Liberty 200 series; and the naming of Bourbon Liberty 301, the first vessel of the Bourbon Liberty 300 series of 20 AHTS. The new Bourbon Liberty 300 AHTS has been designed and built by Sinopacific Zhejiang Co. of China. The vessel boasts a larger deck area and liquid capacity, driven by the need to service increasing number of deepwater energy projects.

Naming Ceremony for Bourbon Front

This Tuesday, Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., an affiliate to Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group, held the delivery and naming ceremony for global lead vessel PX105, a ship built for Bourbon Offshore Norway. The company leaders and the ship owner’s representatives attended this grand ceremony, where PX105 was named the BOURBON FRONT. As an offshore support vessel designed by Ulstein, PX105 features an overall length of 88.8M, breadth of 19M, depth of 8M, DWT of 4400T, and maximum speed of 15.5 knots.

Seaspan Financial Results, Three and Six Months

Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) announced the financial results for the three and six months ended June 30, 2010. Gerry Wang, Chief Executive Officer of Seaspan, stated, "During the second quarter, Seaspan achieved high utilization for its modern fleet and posted strong operating results while further expanding its contracted revenue streams. We took delivery of six newbuildings, four of which were delivered ahead of schedule, highlighting increased demand during the quarter. All six vessels commenced long-term time charters with top liner companies as planned. In addition, we capitalized on an attractive market opportunity by acquiring a 4250 TEU newbuilding, our first acquisition since late 2007.

Seaspan Newbuild & Time Charter

Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) announced that it purchased and accepted delivery of one 4250 TEU newbuilding vessel for approximately $43m constructed by Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. of China. The company also announced that it is finalizing the terms of a time charter for the vessel with United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), a liner company jointly owned by six Arab states. Seaspan expects the time charter to be for a two-year period commencing between July 1, 2010 and July 15, 2010 at a rate in excess of $20,000 per day. Seaspan funded the purchase of the vessel with existing credit facilities and with equity raised from the sale of $26m of Series B non-convertible perpetual preferred shares issued to Jaccar Holdings Limited, an investor related to Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

Noble Denton DP China Contract

Offshore engineering and marine service company Noble Denton announced the award of six-figure contract from Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co, Ningbo for the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and trials for a dynamic positioning (DP) Class three ten-vessel new build programme, due for completion in 2012. Noble Denton is working with the Chinese shipbuilding yard to develop an FMEA and trials programme which satisfies both owner and vessel Class requirements. The FMEA and yard design has to consider not only the failure of static components, but also the loss of complete compartments through either fire or flood, making the build programme and analysis more complex.

Ulstein Design Wins Big in China

Bourbon has signed a contract with Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in China concerning the construction of four ULSTEIN P105 platform supply vessels. Ulstein Design AS will deliver the design and major equipment for the vessels. The contract has a total value of around NOK 350 million for Ulstein Design. The vessels will be delivered between September 2007 and September 2008. “This is a major and important breakthrough in the Chinese market for the Ulstein Group. China is a new arena for Ulstein Design, and we are very happy to be selling the designs and equipment for no less than four vessels when we enter this market,” says the president of Ulstein Design, Tore Ulstein. “The contracts are announced at a time when we are already very busy in the Ulstein Group.

Bourbon Offshore Buys Chinese Ships

Bourbon Offshore Norway AS is paying $52 million to China`s Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. for four platform supply ships. The Ulstein P105 vessels will be delivered between September 2007 and September 2008, BON said Wednesday. Bourbon has already taken delivery of two type Ulstein P105 vessels from Ulstein Verft. Bourbon Topaz was delivered in February 2005 and Bourbon Peridot towards the end of October 2005. Source: M&C News

Seaspan Buys Two Ships

Seaspan Corporation announced that it has agreed to purchase two new building vessels from affiliates of Conti Holding GmbH & Co. KG of Germany, increasing Seaspan’s total fleet to 25 vessels. Seaspan will acquire the two 3,500 TEU vessels upon their delivery in February and July 2007 respectively from Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in China. The total delivered cost is expected to be approximately $50 million per vessel, subject to certain pre-delivery expenses remaining at budgeted levels. Seaspan also announced that it has arranged simultaneous twelve-year charter agreements for these vessels with Cosco Container Lines Co., Ltd. at $19,000 per day.
