Famous 16-Foot Great White Shark Gone Missing

Mary Lee, the 16-foot Great White Shark that has had Twitter in a frenzy the past few weeks, has gone missing – electronically speaking. According to Ocearch, a conservation group set out to track and collect date from tiger and great white sharks, said her transmitter hasn’t had a “ping” since June 17, and no one has seen or heard from her since. Fans on twitter have been speculating her death, but never fear, it is more likely her tracker has lost battery power.
Mary Lee was named after Ocearch expedition leader Chris Fischer’s mother. Her 130,000 twitter followers have suggested the possibility that Ocearch and Mary Lee may cross paths in the future.
“That would be amazing if Mary Lee gave us that chance...that would simply be a gift, from Mary Lee and the ocean, for that to happen,” said Chris Fischer to Jacksonville.com. Although Mary Lee was first tagged at about 40-50 years old, she still has another 20 years of life. Boaters and fisherman are keeping an eye out for her distinctive dorsal fin bite around her home town of South Carolina. Her fans from all over the world are confident she will show up soon.
