April 4, 2006

On April 1, Odense Steel Shipyard presented its latest newbuilding for the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. Jocelyn van der Heyden, accompanied by her husband, Henry van der Heyden, Chairman of Fonterra Co-operative Group Ltd., New Zealand, honored A.P. Moller - Maersk and the Yard by naming the newbuilding Georg Maersk. Georg Maersk is the sixth vessel in a new series of technologically advanced container vessels. The vessel is operated with extensive automation, and the choice of materials for the vessel as well as the interior is of highest quality and a characteristic for container vessels built at Odense Steel Shipyard. With its 12-cylinder Wärtsilä RT-flex diesel engine from Doosan Engine Co., which develops 93,000 BHP, Georg Maersk will after delivery enter Maersk Line’s worldwide service and thereby together with the other vessels contribute to a global, competitive and flexible transport for the company’s customers. Georg Maersk will be registered in Hellerup and will be commanded by Captain Michele de Linde Gladwin with Peter Mortensen as Chief Engineer.
