Peter Noble to Lead SNAME

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers Elects Peter G. Noble as the Society’s Next President.

On Friday November 18, 2011, Peter G. Noble was elected to be the next President of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) for a three-year term, the first year to be served as President Elect. For over 45 years, Mr. Noble has worked internationally as a Naval Architect and Ocean Engineer. His career has included positions in design and construction of ships and ocean systems, research and development, and in classification. He
currently serves as Chief Naval Architect at ConocoPhillips, the international energy company.

A continuing focus of his professional work has been related to innovation and technology development and he has published widely on a range of maritime and offshore technology topics. Mr. Noble is a Fellow and Honorary Vice President of SNAME and serves actively on a number of the Society’s Committees and Panels. In 1993, he was awarded the SNAME Centennial Medal and in 2006 SNAME honored him by awarding the Admiral Jerry Land Medal for “contributions to the marine industry”. In 2009 he was recognized by the Offshore Technology Conference, OTC, with the prestigious Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals, based on his work in two fields, LNG and Arctic Engineering and for his continuing contributions to young professionals.

In taking on his new responsibilities, Mr. Noble referenced the following quote “I hope I can try to emulate John Quincy Adams’ definition of a leader when he said: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” Thank you again for your confidence in electing me as your next president. Mr. Noble will assume his duties as President Elect on January 1, 2012 and as President of the Society on January 1, 2013.
