Globe Wireless announced that its Board of Directors has elected Frank Coles as its president and chief operating officer.
Coles is a master mariner and holds a Master’s Degree in maritime law. As a qualified English solicitor, Coles practiced shipping law in London with Richards Butler and in Hong Kong with Stephenson Harwood & Lo. He moved on to become general manager of Pacific basin Bulk Shipping in Hong Kong, and spent two years as Chief Executive Officer on Rydex Industries Corporation, a company focusing on marine communications. Before joining globe Wireless, Coles was with Litton Marine Systems, serving as vice president, business development and information technology.
Coles has been the managing director of globe Wireless for the last two years. During that time, Globe Wireless has undergone unprecedented growth, and now provides services to a customer base of over 3,300 ships. During his tenure, Globe wireless has introduced Globe Communications Center, expanded its Maritime Data Network to over 20 nodes, and has opened additional offices in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Globe Wireless also announces the appointment of Trevor Whitworth as senior vice president of sales. In this new position, Whitworth will be responsible for all sales and customer service activities on a global basis.
Whitworth brings knowledge and many years of experience to Globe Wireless. He was at sea as a Merchant Naval Officer in the British Merchant Navy, and is qualified as a chief officer, holding a “Mates Foreign Going” certificate. Whitworth has a Higher National Certificate in Maritime Studies and a B.S. in Maritime Commerce.
Whitworth has held a variety of Sales and Marketing positions at O.I.L., an offshore supply boat company, rising to the level of general manager of several different divisions of the business. Whitworth then helped found a new venture for MARK Ltd., offering specialized messaging solutions to the shipbroking industry. When GN Comtext acquired this successful business, Whitworth became the global sales manager for the entire business. He then progressed to general manager for operations, where he had responsibility for development, production and support activities.
Walter Kane has been promoted to vice president, sales for the Americas. Kane has had a career of over 20 years as a Radio Officer in the United States Merchant Marine and United States coast Guard. He has been with Globe Wireless since 1993, and has held a variety of sales and operations positions with the company. He has worked at the company headquarters in California, opened the sales office in the Gulf of Mexico, and now runs sales for the Americas out of the Palm Bay, Fla. Office.
