Schat-Harding Buys Lyttelton Marine

Schat-Harding has purchased the independent lifeboat servicing business of Singapore-based Lyttelton Marine. David Bradley, Schat-Harding group after sales and service manager says, "Singapore is a key hub for both the shipping and offshore worlds. From there engineers can service equipment in its busy shipyards, or on rigs in neighbouring countries, and on the many ships which call at Singapore and its neighbouring ports. So Schat-Harding has invested in an enhanced centre there, by taking over the long-established independent lifeboat service business of Lyttelton Marine."

The move will give Schat-Harding's direct service capability in Asia by adding eleven engineers and new workshops to the global network. Bradley says, "The requirements of IMO's MSC1206 that all lifeboats and davits should be maintained by manufacturer-approved engineers places a major responsibility on us as the world leaders to ensure that our network is fully capable of meeting the needs of shipowners. We believe that correct maintenance and the correct implementation of MSC1206 by flag states will dramatically cut the unfortunate number of lifeboat accidents. Investing in Lyttelton Marine's lifeboat business is evidence of how seriously we take this issue."
