Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, is being awarded a $16,000,000 cost-plus-fixed-fee option to previously awarded contract (N00024-03-C-2310) for the advance procurement of required Long Lead Material for the first Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) to be constructed by Bath Iron Works. The LCS is the U.S. Navy's newest surface combatant. The LCS requirement has been identified as part of a broader surface combatant force transformation strategy; focused missions for the ship are those that ensure and enhance friendly force access to littoral areas. Long Lead Material is being procured under the Final System Design contract in order to meet the delivery requirements of the first Flight Zero ship. The contract award for Long Lead Material includes a description of the items to be procured, the supplier, the required ordering date, supplier lead-time, in-yard need date and a breakout by month of the dollar amounts required. Work will be performed in Bath, Maine, and is expected to be completed September 2005. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
