Video: A Special Module Carrier Breaks the Ice

Drone footage shows ZPMC-Red Box Energy Services' icebreaking Arctic module carrier Audax underway in Arctic waters.

The world's first polar class heavy transport deck carrier, Audox, was specially constructed for transporting modules from Belgium through Arctic waters to the Yamal liquefied natural gas (LNG) project site in northern Russia.

Audax and its sister vessel Pugnax, owned by ZPMC-Red Box Energy Services, were designed by Aker Arctic and built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited in 2016.

The two Polar Class 3 vessels are currently the only deck carriers in the world that can transport cargo in the Arctic region year-round. The ships can carry maximum loads up to 28,500 tons and navigate on ice up to 1.5 meters thick in the polar regions at a speed of up to 2 knots.
