The King County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division in Washington has selected Moose Boats to build a new, custom diesel electric hybrid patrol boat.The model M1 will be 46’ long and powered by two Volvo Penta D11-625HP Diesel engines integrated with in-line twin Dan Foss electric motors.The vessel build will be a close collaboration between Hamilton Jet, who has designed the electric propulsion system, Volvo Penta and Moose Boats. “During the first two months of 2025, bulker newbuilding contracting dropped 92% y/y to the lowest level in at least 30 years. While contracting in January was low, no new ships were ordered in February. Weak freight rates, high newbuilding prices, long lead times and uncertainty are likely discouraging contracting,” says Filipe Gouveia, Shipping Analysis Manager at BIMCO.Dry bulk contracting has been slowing since the second half of 2024. In addition, the Werkendam-based shipyard will build two coupling pontoons for Van der Wees. The Lastdrager 29 was developed to meet the unique transport challenges faced by Van der Wees, which has designed the RoRo Pontoon together with Shipbuilding Solutions. Equipped with a (removable) drive-in function, the pontoon enables the seamless loading and unloading of high and heavy cargo, supporting a load capacity of up to 600 tons.

Tanker owner Performance Shipping entered into a sale and leaseback agreement with an unaffiliated third party for a previously announced newbuild LR2 Aframax tanker vessel. This concludes the financing for all three newbuilding LNG-ready, scrubber-fitted LR2 product/crude oil tanker vessels of approximately 114,000 dwt each, expected to be delivered in August and September 2025, and January 2026.The bareboat financing amount totals $45 million. GTT Wins Order for LNG Carrier Tank Design

GTT received an order from an Asian shipyard for the tank design of two new Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers (LNGCs) on behalf of an Asian ship-owner. GTT will design the tanks of these two vessels, which will each offer a total capacity of 174,000 cu. m. and will be fitted with a membrane containment system from the NO96 series developed by GTT. Deliveries of the vessels are scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2027.

According to the latest figures from DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) platform, 34 new orders for alternative-fuelled vessels were placed in February 2025.This was almost entirely accounted for by LNG-fuelled vessels (33), with all orders placed for container vessels. The remaining order was for an ammonia-fuelled general cargo vessel.A total of 45 alternative-fuelled vessels have been ordered in the first two months of this year, representing a 35% decrease compared to the first two months of 2024.
