Hagland Orders Bulker Pair at Royal Bodewes
Norwegian shipowner Hagland Shipping said it has ordered two 5,000 DWT self-discharging bulk carriers from Dutch shipyard Royal Bodewes for scheduled delivery in the first half of 2023. Seaspan Orders Another Six Containerships
Seaspan Corporation on Tuesday announced it has reached a deal to order six additional containerships, bringing to 37 the number of newbuilds the shipowner has ordered since December 2020. The six 15,500 TEU neo-panamax box ships will be fitted with exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) and are expected to be delivered from the second half of 2023 through to mid-year 2024, said Seaspan, a subsidiary of New York-listed Atlas Corp.

A largescale salvage operation has freed one of the world's biggest containerships from blocking global trade through the Suez Canal, services firm Boskalis said Monday, enabling the resumed flow of maritime commerce through one of the world’s most important shipping arteries.At high tide on Monday, a team of tugboats was able to dislodge the 20,000 TEU Ever Given's bulbous bow from the bank of the canal where it had been stuck for nearly a week.

MAN's ME-GI Engines Ordered for 10 VLCC Newbuilds
MAN Energy Solutions said Wednesday it has won an order to supply its MAN B&W 7G80ME-GI Mk9.5 dual-fuel engines for a series of 10 300,000-dwt very large crude carriers (VLCC) being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) in South Korea. HSD Engine will construct the engines, also in Korea.The newbuilds—including four for Advantage Tankers, three for AET and three for International Seaways—will operate globally on charter to oil major Shell.

'Small Fire' Aboard Antarctic Supply Ship
The Australian Antarctic Division said a small fire broke out on board a vessel used to resupply Australia’s Casey research station in Antarctica.The fire was discovered around 7 a.m. local time on January 29, in a battery room above the bridge of Bahamas-flagged MPV Everest while the vessel was transiting back to Hobart following an Antarctic resupply trip.The fire was quickly put out using handheld fire extinguishers, AAD said.

MARAD Seeking Comments on the Future of Nuclear Ship Savannah
The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) is seeking the public's help in determining the future of the world's first nuclear-powered merchant ship.The NS Savannah was built by New York Shipbuilding Corp. and launched in 1959 as part of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Atoms for Peace Program to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The ship was removed from service in 1971 and the reactor was defueled.
