"The high oil price has created a boom market for offshore support vessels and we expect the oil market will remain high for the foreseeable future,” said Eivind Grostad, DNV’s Senior Vice President & Regional Manager for DNV Maritime. According to the classification society, DNV Maritime has captured 50% of the Middle East and Indian market in classification of new vessels on order or being built. This figure represents 39% of the total tonnage of vessels currently operating in the region.

Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard, ASRY, in Bahrain has become the first shipyard in the world to be awarded ISO 9001-2000 Certificate. This certificate was awarded to ASRY on October 18 by Det Norske Veritas, the Norwegian Certification Authority and is in recognition of the Quality Management System it has in place in the yard. The ISO 9001-2000 certificate is an enhancement of the broader version of the ISO 9002 certificate, which was developed two years ago. Eivind Grostad, Vice President for DNV, presented the award on October 31 in Bahrain. Khateeb also paid tribute to the dedication and commitment of the entire workforce at ASRY.
