U.S. President Joe Biden's plan to build a floating U.S. military port to speed up aid to Gaza could take up to 60 days to become a reality and involve more than 1,000 American troops, the Pentagon said on Friday.The Pentagon offered the timeline a day after Biden announced the initiative in his State of the Union speech, as he seeks to cool anger in his Democratic Party over his staunch support for Israel's offensive in Gaza since Oct. 7.The United Nations has warned that widespread famine in the Gaza Strip is "almost inevitable" without urgent action.

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) entered U.S. 6th Fleet’s area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe March 3, 2015. While on deployment, Jason Dunham will interact with allied and partner nations, highlighting the U.S. commitment and emphasis of building strong partnerships and improving warfighting capability. It will also conduct several port visits and participate in a number of exercises while in U.S. 6th Fleet’s area of operation. The U.S. remains committed to maintaining a persistent presence in Europe. It looks forward to further commitments with its allies to ensure a coordinated and continuous land, air and sea presence in the region as part of the commitments made at the NATO Summit.

Wan Hai Lines, Ltd. (WHL) will expand its U.S.-Asia service in the near future as part of its continuing commitment to increase capacity and improve customer service. Wan Hai is planning to replace five 1,600-TEU vessels in its U.S.-Asia service with five larger vessels of up to 3,500-TEU capacity. Additionally, it will acquire additional equipment and expand customer service and sales forces to support the increased vessel capacity and modify, as necessary, its current trans-Pacific service route for wider Asian port coverage. Wan Hai Lines’ vessels will continue to call at U.S. ports once a week with the added capacity, enabling the line to accommodate its growing client base in both the U.S. and Asia.
