Russian Navy Frigate Under Construction

The Yantar Shipyard in the Baltic area of Kaliningrad is to start the construction of a new Krivak IV class frigate for Russia's Black Sea Fleet. The Admiral Makarov is the last in a series of three Krivak IV class frigates built for the Russian Navy under a tender won by Yantar in 2010. The first two ships in the series, the Admiral Grigorovich and the Admiral Essen, are at various stages of construction. All three warships are expected to be delivered to the Russian Navy in 2013-2014.

Russia Orders New Krivak IV Frigates

United Shipbuilding Corporation, the Russian construction, repairs and maintenance industry, reportedly signed a contract with the ministry of defence for the construction of another three Krivak IV class frigates for the Russian navy, according to a report on www.avionews.com. The frigates are equipped with a 100-mm gun, Shitl medium-range air defense system, Club-N supersonic missiles, two Kashtan point defense systems, two twin 533-mm torpedo launchers and an anti-submarine warfare helicopter. The agreement calls for the construction of the warships by 2016 and the first three frigates will be built in the Yantar shipyard, in Kaliningrad. (Source: www.avionews.com)
