New Deputy Chief of the Contracting Office at NSWC Dahlgren Division

Leadership has added a new face in the contracting department at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). Michael Brian Donaldson assumed the role of deputy chief of the contracting office (DCCO) in December, with management responsibility for a team of more than 110 contracting specialists, contracting officers, cost analysts, policy analysts and other contracting professionals.The contracting department at NSWCDD executes several thousand contract actions in a typical year, with a collective value of approximately $950 million.

Rolls-Royce's Power Systems division has ended the 2020 financial year with an underlying operating profit of $247.3 million despite suffering a 17% drop in underlying revenue to $3.8 billion. Ulstein Group unveiled a hydrogen-powered ship design that it claims is market-ready, offering zero-emission marine operations.Recently, DNV GL identified the five most promising alternative fuels for shipping, with hydrogen as the ultimate zero-emission solution. The first complete hydrogen fueled prospect has been put together by Ulstein Design & Solutions BV and Nedstack fuel cell technology BV. The ULSTEIN SX190 Zero Emission DP2 construction support vessel is Ulstein’s first hydrogen powered offshore vessel, featuring a Nedstack fuel cell power system. Mammoet Moves 800 Ton in Alberta

Weighing over 800 ton - roughly four times the weight of a blue whale -,  and spanning over 300 ft., the splitter vessel is the biggest load to ever be moved on Alberta's highways.On the evening of January 6th Mammoet began the transport for the giant splitter vessel. The vessel left Dacro Industries, where it was constructed, and began it’s 3 day transport journey from Edmonton to Fort Saskatchewan, AB.The splitter vessel is a key part of the process at Inter Pipeline’s Heartland Petrochemical Complex where propane will be converted into recyclable plastic pellets, known as polypropylene, which will then be used to make items such as computers, medical equipment and food storage containers.

A modern ship waste-water reception facility went into operation at Kiel’s Ostseekai on June 14. Reftrade Upgrades Fleet Refrigeration Systems

Reftrade UK  has made an investment to upgrade its fleet with environmentally friendly technology. The world’s first refrigeration system to use CO2 as a natural refrigerant, NaturaLINE, has been installed in Reftrade UK’s fleet. The system has been designed by Carrier to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and reduce the power usage of each unit. The six figure investment will see Reftrade UK take a market-lead as the only supplier of refrigerated containers to offer the environmentally friendly technology, the company said.

RWE Dea Helps Cleveland Juniors Reach Goals

Yesterday, a new club house for the Cleveland Juniors Football Club in Middlesbrough in northern England was officially opened. With support from RWE Dea, the Football Foundation and other sponsors, Lionsraw collected a total of GBP 418,000 to complete their first Legacy Project in the United Kingdom. The club house and a lease will secure the future of the junior football club in the long term. Former Middlesbrough and England manager Steve McClaren officially opened the new clubhouse on Wednesday. Construction, including showers, lockers, toilets and office facilities in northern England, began on 4 March 2014. The new building replaces the old storage containers the young football players and children have been using as changing room until now.

International Logistics from Washington to Korea

On a journey that would take more than five weeks, six 32-foot transportable security boats (TPSBs), two pick-up trucks, six boat trailers, and 15 five-ton storage containers traveled more than 5,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean from Everett, Washington to Pohang, South Korea. OilDam Approved for Initial Deployment to Oil Spill

TIE Technologies, Inc. and Geocomp Corporation announced that the British Petroleum PLC Houston Command Team and the U.S. Coast Guard approved initial deployment of the OilDam(TM) as a solution to keep leaking crude oil from away from the Gulf Coast shore. Separately, BP announced that it will give $75m worth of grants to Alabama, Florida and Mississippi to protect the environmentally sensitive coastline as the states respond to the worst oil spill in America's history. The OilDam(TM) solution is designed to keep oil away from the shore, contain it and pump it into storage containers for recycling. At the same time, this fixed barrier blocks oil, and is ecosystem friendly by allowing water to pass back and forth through its base, maintaining tidal flows to support critical shoreline life.

Kongsberg Maritime Multibeam Echo Sounder Chosen for Icebreaker

Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded a $3.2m contract to provide an EM 122 1ºx 1º multibeam hydrographic echo sounder and one 3º SBP 120 sub bottom profiler to the University of Stockholm and the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation have financed the purchase together with the Swedish Research Council. The system is to be installed on the Icebreaker Oden, which is owned and managed by the Swedish Maritime Administration, Norrköping, Sweden. Oden built by Götaverken-Arendal in Gothenburg in 1987 is a 107m icebreaker vessel with 19 crewmembers and a top-speed of 15 knots. Boom has contained the spilled oil while the weir disk skimmer's oliofelic disk passes through the oil. The oil adheres to disks which is squeezed off to a trough and pumped into temporary storage containers.

Eight-Band Rope Mop Skimmer

NRC Guardian demonstrates an Eight-Band Rope Mop Skimmer system. Rope is dragged through the spilled oil. During this process oil adheres to the rope fibers. Just like the old fashioned wringer washer machines, the rope is then run through a series of rollers which squeeze the oil out of the mop into a trough which is pumped into temporary storage containers.
