Seven Rescued from Disabled Tug off Maryland
Seven people were rescued from a tug that went adrift off the U.S. East Coast.A crew member aboard the tug Legacy notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday that while towing a 290-foot barge from New Jersey, to Guyana, a 1,000-foot towing line became entangled and fouled their starboard propeller about 30 miles offshore from Ocean City, Md.The vessel continued to make way on one engine when the tow line snapped.
USCG Report: Small Cutters Prove They Can Patrol a Big Ocean
The Coast Guard’s 353-ton, 154-foot fast response cutter (WPC) is capable of deploying independently to conduct missions that include port, waterways and coastal security; fishery patrols; search and rescue; and national defense. The service plans to build 64 of them to replace the 110-foot Island class patrol boats. The FRC has a range of 2,500 miles, but the endurance of the 24 crewmembers is normally limited to about five days based on the quantity of provisions carried.

Sunken Vessel Leaks Oil Near Sitka, Alaska
The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to a report of a diesel fuel discharge after a vessel sank near Sitka, Alaska.Sector Juneau personnel received a report, February 26, that the 52-foot fishing vessel Haida Lady sank and was completely submerged between Cobb Island and Silver Point south of Sitka. The vessel reportedly discharged an unknown amount of unrecoverable diesel near Cobb Island.Hanson Marine has been contracted by the Coast Guard to mitigate pollution and recover the vessel.
