Bonhomme Richard Back At Sea for RIMPAC
Following a 14-day port visit to , USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) (BHR) returned to sea July 11 to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise. BHR will spend several days conducting flight deck and well deck operations as well as other drills and evolutions in preparation for the tactical phase of the exercise. "This is an excellent opportunity to prepare us for what we do anyway," said Capt. Neil R. Parrott, BHR commanding officer.
Skipjack En Route to West Coast
Penn Maritime's newest vessel, Skipjack, is currently en-route from the builder, Thoma-Sea Boatbuilder, on the Gulf coast to the west coast. It is pushing a new 90,000 barrel tank-barge. A sister ship is expected to deliver from the same yard in October this year. These are a part of Penn's five boat order from the yard.

The California Maritime Academy of Vallejo, CA, a member of the , and Clearwater Port LLC, announced the creation of a joint program to expand West Coast training in the handling and transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG) products. The program puts in place the first formal continuing education LNG training available from a nationally recognized institution on the West Coast.
