Naval Forces Prevented Pirate Attack
The incident occurred in the International Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC) in the Gulf of Aden. Six pirates in a skiff were reported to approach the Turkish cargo ship MV Elgiznur Cebi. The pirates were forced to break off their attack by a helicopter from the EU NAVFOR frigate Bremen after warning shots were fired. Boarding was subsequently conducted by the boarding team of the Greek frigate Navarinon, once it had arrived at the scene of the incident.
Planned Snøhvit Stoppage
The Hammerfest LNG plant at Melkøya in northern Norway will be shut down on Saturday 15 August for up to three months of upgrading and maintenance work. As operator, StatoilHydro is conducting upgrading and modification work at the Hammerfest gas liquefaction plant in order to maintain a high production level in the time ahead. Since start-up in the autumn of 2007, upgrading and replacement of equipment has been carried out to increase the plant's production level.

Port of Hamburg Cargo Remains Below Last Year
In the first half of 2009, the Port of Hamburg handled a total of 54.2 million metric tons of seagoing cargo. This represents a drop of 23.7 percent in comparison to the same period in the previous year. Port of Hamburg Marketing, the marketing organization for the Port of Hamburg, reported a volume of 30 million tons of imported cargo, 26.5 percent less than in the last year. Exports were hit less hard, with a total volume of 24.2 tons, falling only 19.9 percent.
