The National Subsea Research Institute (NSRI) has achieved its initial target to recruit 20 companies to join in developing a vision for the long-term future of the subsea industry. The organisation, jointly established just over a year ago by Subsea UK, the University of Aberdeen, the University of Dundee, Newcastle University and Robert Gordon University, is developing a national research program to benefit the UK subsea industry over the next 15-20 years.
Developing Njord’s Northwest Flank
Statoil is developing Njord’s northwest flank. This development will increase the total recoverable reserves in the Njord field, secure continued gas exports and extend Njord’s lifetime by up to two years. The flank lies about six kilometers north-west of the Njord platform. The development solution comprises two new extended-reach wells. Drilled directly from the platform with eight kilometers of well paths, the wells will be tied back to the platform.

Bibby Offshore Acquires Dive Support Vessel
Bibby Offshore Limited, the Aberdeen-based provider of subsea construction and offshore management services, announced that it has acquired the dive support vessel (DSV), Bibby Sapphire, from the vessel’s present owner, Volstad Subsea AS. A $52.5m loan facility has been provided by Standard Chartered Bank to fully fund the acquisition. Standard Chartered Bank will act as sole lender in the transaction.

Krishnapatnam Port achieved a new benchmark by loading 60,021 MT of Iron Ore fines in just 24 hrs surpassing its previous record of 54,500 MT. The cargo was loaded in vessel MV Tian Li Hai by using the conventional system of loading for ports in India. The vessel called to the port on April 12 and the loading commenced at 16:20 hrs which ended on April 13 at 16:20 hrs. The entire cargo of 88,000 MT was loaded into the vessel within 36 hrs, thereby setting its highest-ever loading record.
