Skipper: New Support Tools for Acoustic Products
Skipper released the new support tool for all technicians serving acoustic products. The Skipper ETT985 is a combined echo sounder simulator, transducer tester and NMEA tester, in a single handheld unit. This tool allows the technician to test both the acoustical functions of the Echo Sounder and Transducers. The ETT985 has a built-in rechargeable battery. The simulator will measure the transmitted pulse and replying with either the same pulse or a user defined pulse.
USS Freedom Repainted with Amercoat
PPG Industries said the topsides of the USS Freedom, lead ship of the U.S Navy's littoral combat ships (LCS), have been repainted using AMERCOAT(R) 240 edge-retention epoxy and PSX(R) 700SG epoxy-polysiloxane coatings by PPG's protective and marine coatings (PMC) business. Commissioned in 2008, the USS Freedom went to dry dock in January 2013 to remove the existing coatings system because that system had failed.

CSS Olympia Launched, Additional CSS Contracts Secured
STX Marine launched MAC Offshore’s Compact Semi-Submersible (CSS), CSS Olympia. The launch took place on the 28th March, 2013 at the LiyaPingtan Shipyard, in Fujian Province, China, managed by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding. The delivery of the vessel is due in November 2013 to CSS Olympia’s new owner Graal Invest of Brazil. MAC Offshore signed four additional CSS contracts to be constructed by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding with delivery between August 2014 and October 2015.
ABS Reports Continued Growth in 2012
ABS hosted its Annual Meeting in New York on April 23, 2013. ABS Chairman, Robert D. In 2012, the ABS-classed fleet reached 193.5 million gross tons, a growth rate of more than 4% year-on-year. ABS also maintained its leading position in the global orderbook with 21% of all vessels on order designated for ABS class. With nearly 70% of all vessels aged ten years or less, ABS has one of the youngest fleets showing a strong foundation for a successful future of the organization.
