Recently, BMT was consulted in a number of cases/casualties involving the breaking and subsequent salvage of inland navigation barges. The incidents all occurred during loading operations. Since old barges were involved, questions immediately arose about the cause of the incident. Navy Awards Austal $691M for Two Littoral Combat Ships
The U.S. Navy has ordered two new littoral combat ships from Austal, the shipbuilder said in a press release today. The two orders, worth $691 million, are part of the Navy's expansion of a previous block buy contract with Austal to 10 total ships, with the option to award an eleventh ship in FY 2016. The Navy also awarded a $441 million contract to Lockheed Martin for one LCS, U.S. Naval Institute (USNI) News reported.
Hapag-Lloyd Improves Safety of Dangerous Goods Transportation
Last year, Hapag-Lloyd discovered 2,620 cases of incorrectly declared dangerous goods that were prevented from being shipped. Dangerous goods experts at Hapag-Lloyd investigated over 162,000 suspicious cases which were recorded using a newly developed watchdog software. The watchdog program continuously examines Hapag-Lloyd’s cargo data to identify anything conspicuous and has a database of more than 6,000 keywords that is constantly being added to and refined.

On 28 March, SeaZip Offshore Service named two new Damen Fast Crew Suppliers (FCS) 2610 at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem. The two vessels, named SeaZip 3 and SeaZip 4, will expand their owner’s offshore wind farm support capacity in the North Sea region. SeaZip 3 and SeaZip 4 can be described as the Mark II version of Damen’s renowned FCS 2610.
