New Tug Buffalo Enters Service for Kotug Smit Towage
Kotug Smit Towage said it has taken the newly-built ATD 2412 Twin Fin tug Buffalo into service for its European harbor towage activities. Buffalo is the third tug built by Damen for Kotug Smit Towage, following the earlier delivered tugs Rotterdam and Southampton. The vessel recently commenced her harbor towage activities in the Port of Southampton. Baltic Index Lifted By Firmer Capesize Rates
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, gained nearly 1 percent to rise for a third straight session on Friday, driven by firmer rates for capesize vessels. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, was up 11 points, or 0.92 percent, at 1,207 points, highest since Jan. 29. It gained 1.9 percent this week, rising for the second straight week.
Rolls-Royce Propulsion for New Hong Kong Fast Ferries
Rolls-Royce said it has been contracted to deliver Kamewa waterjet propulsion units and MTU engines for three 42m high-speed, lightweight carbon fiber ferries for operation between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China. The vessels will be built at the Brødrene Aa shipyard in Norway. The same shipyard has also ordered Rolls-Royce propulsion for two similarly-sized ferries to serve routes in the north of Norway.
Luxury Yacht Seized in Money Laundering Probe
Indonesian police on Thursday questioned the captain and crew of a luxury yacht in Bali at the request of U.S. authorities, probing alleged money laundering at a Malaysian state fund, they said. The yacht was impounded in Bali on Wednesday amid a multi-billion dollar corruption investigation launched by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and tied to Malaysian state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
