Hamburg Süd Christens Cap San Vincent
Hamburg Süd christened its new containership, Cap San Vincent, at a ceremony at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) shipyard in Okpo, South Korea, Wednesday. The final vessel in a series of three identical new builds, Cap San Vincent’s christening follows the launch of sister ships Cap San Juan and Cap San Lazaro earlier this year. The three containerships are part of the Cap San series, the largest in Hamburg Süd’s fleet.

Cruise Season Kicks off in San Diego
The arrival of Celebrity Cruises' Infinity in San Diego Harbor today officially kicks off cruise season at the Port of San Diego. The 2,170-passenger cruise ship Infinity sailed into San Diego harbor today as part of a nine-night Pacific coastal cruise that begins and ends in San Francisco, making visits to Monterey, Santa Barbara, Catalina and Ensenada. Eleven container vessels owned by Bernhard Schulte GmbH & Co. KG, based in Germany, are to be retrofitted with Wärtsilä Aquarius Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS), Wärtsilä announced today. CMA CGM Launches 18,000 TEU Containership
Container shipping firm CMA CGM Group has taken delivery of its newest colossal containership, the 18,000 TEU, 400-meter-long CMA CGM Bougainville. Now the largest vessel sailing under the French flag, CMA CGM Bougainville is the fourth vessel of the 18,000 TEU series, all bearing the names of great explorers, in this case honoring French explorer Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, who as captained the first French official world tour in the 18th Century.

Mary Anne Rooney Named APP President
Mary Anne Rooney, Harbor Commissioner at California’s Port of Hueneme, has been named President of the Association of Pacific Ports (APP), a trade and information association promoting increased efficiency and effectiveness of Pacific ports. Rooney, who previously served as APP’s Second Vice President, was selected at the group’s 102nd Annual Conference held in August in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
