Crowley’s 2nd LNG ConRo Ship Ahead of Schedule
Shipbuilder VT Halter Marine, Inc. announced construction has started early for the second liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered ConRo ship, Taíno, for Crowley Holdings, Inc. Taíno’s steel cutting ceremony was held May 27 at VT Halter’s Pascagoula, MIss. facility, following the start of construction for sister ship, El Coquí, in October 2014. Both ships are being built for Crowley Maritime Corporation, with deliveries scheduled for mid and late 2017.

Marsh to Take Over as Lloyd’s Register CEO
Alastair Marsh, current CFO at the Lloyd’s Register Group Ltd. (LR), has been appointed as the successor to CEO Richard Sadler who has decided to step down at the end of 2015. Sadler will pass the CEO role to Marsh on October 1, 2015 and commence a formal handover period until the end of December 2015. Simon Nice, currently Group FP&A Director, will take up the role of Interim Group Financial Director during the transition.

Ostebo Chosen to Head CLIA
Thomas P. Ostebo will join Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer, effective July 6, 2015. Selected by CLIA’s global executive committee following the departure of Christine Duffy on January 31, 2015, former CLIA president and CEO, Ostebo will oversee CLIA domestic and international operations, working directly with CLIA’s senior leadership team.

Viking Star Towed into London
Kotug Rotortugs RT Ambition and RT Evolution were charged with a special task this morning as they towed new cruise ship Viking Star on her first call to the Port of London. Meyer Turku Delivers First Ship Under New Owners
Meyer Turku handed over Mein Schiff 4 to TUI Cruises on Friday May 8, 2015, marking the first delivery from Turku Shipyard under Meyers’ ownership. The Meyer family, operators of the shipbuilding company Meyer Werft in Germany, became the 100 percent owner of Meyer Turku Oy just two days earlier on May 6. Mein Schiff 4 will be named in Kiel on June 5, before sailing on her maiden voyage to the Baltic States on June 6, 2015.

Bergen Group Cancels Rig Facilities Sale
The Bergen Group has decided to terminate a sales agreement that would see Semco Maritime acquire its rig service yard facilities at Hanøytangen. The real estate and the rig service activity at Hanøytangen will continue to be under the Bergen Group's ownership. According to Semco Maritime, the transaction, initially announced on April 13, 2015, was subject to final closing no later than April 30, but ran into “unforeseen issues” which caused the Bergen Group to cancel the deal.

Savannah, Ga. Opposes Offshore Drilling
The city council of Savannah, Georgia on April 30 unanimously approved a resolution opposing offshore seismic testing and oil drilling activities, the Savannah Morning News reported. MISC Says AET Tankers Unit Not for Sale
MISC Berhad issued a statement today addressing recent market speculation that the company is set to sell its wholly owned petroleum tanker subsidiary AET Tankers. The statement comes in response to now disconfirmed media reports that stated MISC was looking to sell AET to Teekay. Malaysian-headquartered AET operates a fleet of approximately 80 owned and chartered vessels, with one DP2 shuttle tanker scheduled to be delivered this year.

Twelve Cranes Unload Mega Box Ship
The 398-meter-long containership CMA CGM Kerguelen made its first call at the Port Klang Port Terminal in Malaysia, arriving to a very unique arrangement, the CMA CGM Group announced. No less than 12 cranes were used simultaneously to match the vessel's exceptional length and capacity (17,722 TEU), setting a new record for CMA CGM. Delivered in March, U.K.-flagged CMA CGM Kerguelen is the first of six new vessels of its type to enter the CMA CGM fleet in 2015.

Bulk Carrier Grounds in St. Lawrence Seaway
A 621-foot bulk carrier ran aground near Wellesley Island in the St. Lawrence River, Monday. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) is responding. The Bahamian-flagged motor vessel Juno is aground in the vicinity of Wellesley Island, in the St. Lawrence River, New York, and is taking on water in one of the forward ballast tanks. The vessel is slightly listing to port with 18-feet of water in the forward peak of the vessel. There are no reported injuries to the crew, and no reported pollution.

Royal IHC Launches Sister Pipelay Vessels
Netherlands-based Royal IHC today named and launched new pipelaying sister vessels, Sapura Jade and Sapura Ônix, in ceremonies at the company’s shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands. Sapura Jade’s naming was performed by Belle de Bruin, managing director of the Indofin Group, following the naming of Sapura Ônix by Dahlia Abdul Aziz, spouse of Alex Monsen, JV board member and VP of newbuild/senior vice president of Seadrill.

Arctic Offshore Rig Gets USCG Escort
U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) crews escorted heavy lift ship Blue Marlin as it toted a controversial 38,000-metric-ton drilling rig into Port Angeles, Wash., Friday. Blue Marlin, Dockwise’s 674-foot semi-submersible heavy lift ship, was escorted into its anchorage location in Port Angeles while carrying Polar Pioneer, a column-stabilized offshore drilling rig expected to be a key piece in Arctic operations for Royal Dutch Shell.
