Barge Master T700 to Be Installed on Boskalis Ndeavor
A Barge Master BM-T700 system was unloaded in Singapore today as it awaits the early 2015 arrival of DP-2 multipurpose vessel Boskalis Ndeavor. According to Barge Master, the T700 will be mobilized on the Ndeavor and continue to the Phillipines where a bridge will be installed between two gas platforms using the Barge Master to compensate the motions of the bridge as a result of the waves. MSC Oscar is the World’s Largest Containership
MSC Oscar, the newest cargo vessel built for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), will launch in January 2015, and at 19,224 teu, the containership will take the record for world’s largest. MSC Oscar possesses a nominal capacity of 19,224 teu, officially making the ship the largest globally, edging China Shipping Container Lines’ 19,100 teu CSCL Globe which just recently took the title from Maersk’s 18,270 teu Triple-E class.

NAT CEO: Low Oil Prices Benefit the Tanker Market
Nordic American Tankers Limited Chairman & CEO Herbjørn Hansson addressed the impacts of low oil prices on the tanker business in a letter to shareholders, citing the decrease in oil price as an overall positive for the world tanker market and possible trigger for the recent rate upswing for Suexmax tankers. “The upswing in Suezmax tanker rates in the recent past may have to some extent to do with the decrease in the oil price,” Hansson said.

HHI Names World’s Largest Containership
The world’s largest containership was named at a ceremony held by builder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) this week. The ship, named CSCL Globe, is the first of five 19,000 TEU containerships for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), and takes the title of world’s largest containership from Maersk Line’s 18,000 teu Triple E class vessels. Measuring 400 meters in length, 58.6 meters in width and 30.5 meters in depth, CSCL Globe is as large as four soccer fields.

Second ART 80-32 Rotortug delivered to Elisabeth Ltd. RT Endeavour, the second of four Rotortugs on order with Cheoy Lee shipyards Ltd. and designed by Robert Allan Ltd., sailed Hong Kong waters Saturday, November 15, 2014 on her way from the build yard to her new owner Elisabeth Ltd., who took delivery of the vessel in Hong Kong. Odfjell Results ‘Improving, But Not Yet Sustainable’

UASC Selects Jotun Coatings for 11 New Containerships
As part of a $2.3 billion newbuilding program, United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has reached an agreement with Jotun for the provision of antifouling coatings for 11 new container vessels. The agreement marks the first time the companies have worked together on marine antifouling hull coatings. Of the 11 vessels to be coated with Jotun's premium antifouling range, eight are 14,500 TEU and three are 18,800 TEU capacity vessels.

CMA CGM to Apply Low Sulfur Surcharge
CMA CGM said it will implement a low sulfur surcharge on all its trades in Emission Control Areas (ECAs) and for all cargos as of January 1, 2015. MARPOL Annex VI regulations for the prevention of air pollution from ships assign Sulfur Oxides (SOx) Emission Control Areas (ECA) with more stringent controls on sulfur emissions. Stricter regulations covering the sulfur content of fuel oil will be strengthened by local regulators in the European Union, U.S. and Canada.

South Korea Votes to Disband its Coast Guard
South Korea’s national assembly has voted to pass legislation effectively disbanding its coast guard after the organization fell under heavy criticism in wake of April’s Sewol ferry capsizing which killed more than 300, most of whom were high school students. South Korean police will take over the coast guard’s responsibilities as a new safety agency is formed. Extensive criticism targeted the coast guards’ rescue efforts as public opinion deemed its performance highly inadequate.

Maersk Supply Service Orders Six Anchor Handlers
Kleven Maritime A/S has been contracted by Maersk Supply Service to build six anchor handling tug supply vessels, with options for four additional newbuilds.
