Active Fuel Spill Cleanup Completed

Active cleanup operations for a fuel spill in Cape May, have been completed. The Coast Guard, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and the Cape May County Health Department responded to a fuel spill in Cape May, N.J., late last night. The Coast Guard was notified that the Stemac, a 91-foot motor yacht from Key Largo, Fla., had discharged fuel overboard at the South Jersey Marina in Cape May, N.J. An estimated 600 gallons of fuel was displaced out of the vessel's fuel tank. The cause of the spill is currently under investigation by the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard along with Northstar Marine, who was contracted by the owner of the Stemac for recovery and clean up of the spill, rapidly deployed 1,500 feet of containment boom in Schellenger Landing and the Cape May Canal to help stop the spill from spreading. Vessel traffic was restricted last night from moving in or out of the marina. Vessel traffic restrictions were lifted by daybreak. There have been no reports of oiled wildlife or other environmental damage from this spill. Crews from Northstar Marine used absorbent padding to soak up fuel from the surface of the water in the marina where the fuel collected in pockets and to wipe down any other contiminated vessels. Fairmount Fuji assisted drillship Stena Forth

Fairmount Marine’s multipurpose support vessel Fairmount Fuji has assisted drillship Stena Forth, owned by Swedish Stena Drilling, when passing by Cape Town, South Africa. Fairmount Fuji was contracted to perform several cargo runs. Stena Forth anchored offshore Cape Town for crew changes and replenishments. Fairmount Fuji is equipped with a spacious 280 square meters deck. This makes her ideal for the transport of goods

Cape Africa Enters Port of Cape Town

The bulk carrier 'Cape Africa', under tow by the salvage tug 'Smit Amandla', will enter the Port of Cape Town this afternoon. Yesterday evening, with the 'Cape Africa' cargo lightening operation complete and the specialized lightening vessel 'Bandar' en route to Saldanha Bay to discharge the final load of iron ore cargo removed from the bulk carrier, the convoy of tug and tow, under escort by the SMIT tug 'Pentow Service' and the oil pollution vessel 'Kuswag IV'

Third Conversion Contract for Keystone Shipping Services

TTS Marine AB received a contract to fabricate a new slewing stern ramp and weathertight stern door for the third Cape R ship owned by the U.S. Maritime Administration. The contract, signed with ship manager Keystone Shipping Services for the Cape Ray, follows the successful conversion of the sister ship Cape Rise and the Cape Race where the conversion work will start during the fall of this year at North Florida Shipyard with assistance from TTS Marine Inc.  

Halliburton Launches State-of-the-Art Vessel for GOM Work

Halliburton Energy Services has deployed a new vessel, M/V Cape Hawke, to Carmen, Mexico to enhance its contract longstanding with PEMEX. The new vessel replaces M/V 221, which has been providing services for PEMEX in the Gulf of Mexico for the last 19 years. M/V Cape Hawke is the second totally new state-of-the-art vessel unveiled by Halliburton this year for work in the Gulf of Mexico. North Florida Shipyards Installs Spar Deck

North Florida Shipyards completed its contract for the fabrication and installation of a spar deck on RoRo vessel Cape Rise owned by the U.S. Maritime Administration. Completed one week ahead of schedule, this is the third of a three-vessel contract - completed on schedule. Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. completed and delivered the 177,000 dwt type bulk carrier MV Cape Garland (Hull No. 1693) at its Chiba Works on January 30, 2009. This ship is the newly designed Cape-size Bulk Carrier of Dunkerque-max Type. It has a double-side skin to cargo holds construction. A Dunkerque-max type is a common name for Cape-size Bulk Carriers built to the restriction of the port of Dunkirque, France

Marad Activates More RRF Ships

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) today activated two more Ready Reserve Force (RRF) ships to support Operation Enduring Freedom.
